The Beekeeper is officially back in business, and he’s bringing a whole lot of buzz with him.
Jason Statham sent fans into a frenzy during Amazon MGM Studios’ CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas on Wednesday. The action star helped kick off the hype for his highly anticipated sequel, The Beekeeper , with a viral-ready video that was equal parts cheeky and intense.
Appearing in a pre-recorded bit, Statham leaned into his character’s signature vibe, calmly pouring honey into his tea before unleashing a first look at the high-octane footage.
The clip immediately set social media ablaze, with fans on X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok obsessed with the sheer scale of the new mission. If you thought the first film was explosive, the sequel is looking to take things to a “hive” new level.
The footage introduces us to Adam Clay (Statham), the former government assassin who belongs to an elite, clandestine intelligence organization known as the Beekeepers. These protectors of the U.S. usually operate above governmental jurisdiction, but there’s a major problem this time around: they’ve gone rogue.
The stakes? Oh, just a kidnapped president.
In a scene that had the CinemaCon audience buzzing, Jeremy Irons’ character, former CIA Director Wallace Westwyld, delivers a chilling ultimatum to Clay. He tells our favorite honey-loving hero that he is the only one who “can stop all this madness.”
Naturally, Statham doesn’t just walk into the line of fire—he sprints into it. The teaser showed Clay wielding machine guns, a literal flamethrower, and, in a moment that has already sparked a wave of memes, even harnessing actual bees as a weapon to take down his enemies.
“Seeing Jason Statham fight people with a flamethrower AND bees is the energy I need in ,” one fan joked on Instagram shortly after the presentation.
Amazon MGM Studios is gearing up to release the film in theaters on Jan. , . This time around, director Timo Tjahjanto is taking the wheel, following the massive success of the original.
The first film, directed by David Ayer, was a surprise smash hit, raking in over $ million at the global box office. Ayer previously shared his gratitude for the fan support, telling The Hollywood Reporter that he intentionally wanted to make something for the audience’s enjoyment.
“To have that work, I don’t want to say I was surprised, but it was really reaffirming, for sure,” Ayer said of the film’s “commercial heart.”
The sequel is also bringing some serious star power. Joining returning cast members like Jeremy Irons, Emmy Raver-Lampman, and Bobby Naderi are exciting newcomers including Yara Shahidi, Pom Klementieff, and wrestling legend Adam Copeland.
While the first film followed Clay on a personal revenge mission, The Beekeeper finds him in a much tighter spot. He’s now a wanted man, forced to continue his vendetta against those who wronged him while trying to save the country from its own protectors.
With the combination of Statham’s grit, a presidential crisis, and literal swarms of bees, it’s safe to say the countdown to has officially begun.
Stay tuned—this hive is only getting bigger.
