Grab your stethoscopes and a box of tissues, Scrubs fans, because the doctors of Sacred Heart just pulled a fast one on us.

The Season finale of the Scrubs revival, titled “My Celebration,” aired Wednesday night, and instead of tying everything up in a neat little bow, it blew the doors off the hospital. The episode has set social media ablaze, with fans on X and TikTok losing it over a series of cliffhangers that prove this revival was never meant to be a one-shot deal.

The biggest buzz? A long-awaited reunion between Zach Braff’s J.D. and a very special guest star: Rachel Bilson.

The duo, who famously starred together in the film The Last Kiss, have a “lovely built-in chemistry,” according to showrunner Aseem Batra. In the finale, J.D. finally connects with Bilson’s character, Charlie, at a wedding reception held at the hospital.

While J.D. is older and “bringing baggage” into this new chapter of his life—including his son—the spark was undeniable. The two even shared a romantic kiss before duty called him away. “We promise we’ll have something more fun than that [next season],” Batra teased regarding Bilson’s limited screen time this year.

But it wasn’t all wedding cake and romance. The episode took a somber turn for the man who usually has all the answers: Dr. Perry Cox.

In a heartbreaking storyline, Cox (played by the incomparable John C. McGinley) reveals he has a chronic autoimmune condition. In a moment that has fans weeping, Perry tries to hide his tears from his ex-wife Jordan (the returning Christa Miller) by claiming he was just watching a Michael Jordan documentary “eight minutes at a time in the bathroom.”

“I love how you see me, and I didn’t want to lose that,” Cox tells her in a rare moment of vulnerability. In true Jordan fashion, she fires back: “If it helps, I’ve always seen you as a whiny baby-man. Let me be the strong one for once.”

McGinley praised Miller’s performance, calling her the “Rosalind Russell of her generation.” Fans are already campaigning for Miller to return as a series regular for a potential Season , especially since she and McGinley have such “explosive” chemistry.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Scrubs without a little chaos from the hallway. Just when J.D. thought he was safe from his old nemesis, the Janitor (Neil Flynn) made his grand return.

The twist? J.D. had been getting along famously with a new worker named “Maintenance Guy”—only to discover he is actually the Janitor’s son! A misplaced comment about nepotism has officially landed J.D. back on the Janitor’s “naughty list,” ensuring the rivalry lives on.

While ABC hasn’t officially greenlit a second season yet, the numbers are looking healthy. The season premiere pulled in over million cross-platform viewers, proving that the world still has a fever for the Sacred Heart crew.

Between a “love polygon” forming among the new interns and J.D.’s new romance hanging in the balance, it’s clear the writers are ready for more. As J.D. might say, “Eagle!”—but we’re going to need that Season renewal before we can truly fly.
