Kristen Bell Is the Ultimate ‘Bad’ Mrs. Claus! See the Viral First Trailer for ‘Violent Night ’

Move over, sugarplum fairies—there’s a new queen of the North Pole, and she’s packing more than just a list of who’s been naughty or nice.

The holiday season just got a whole lot rowdier as the first trailer for Violent Night made its explosive debut at CinemaCon on Wednesday. While fans were pumped to see David Harbour return as the hammer-swinging, vengeful Santa Claus, it was the reveal of his leading lady that sent social media into a total tailspin.

Kristen Bell has officially joined the franchise as Mrs. Claus, and let’s just say she isn’t exactly baking cookies in the kitchen.

The footage, which premiered during the Universal presentation, quickly went viral on X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok, with fans losing it over Bell’s “glow-up” of the classic holiday character. Ditching the dowdy buns and aprons of Christmases past, Bell’s Mrs. Claus is rocking a trendy, form-fitting red outfit with chic white trim.

But it’s her entrance that has everyone talking. As Harbour’s Santa finds himself pinned down during a brutal mall brawl, Bell swings in to save the day with some serious weaponry and a killer one-liner.

“Get your own man, he’s taken,” she declares in the footage, proving that the Claus’s marriage is stronger—and deadlier—than ever.

The sequel picks up with a bit of a “blue Christmas” for our hero. Harbour’s Santa has been kicked out of his gig at the North Pole and is seen wandering through a mall during the holidays, looking a little worse for wear.

In a moment that had the CinemaCon crowd laughing, Harbour’s character confides in a group of kids writing their wish lists, deadpanning, “Maybe I killed too many people.”

Things take a turn for the worse when Harbour takes a job as a mall Santa, only to realize that a group of rogue elves—led by a new villain played by Jared Harris—are on a mission to take him out for good.

“I have reinforcements coming,” Harbour promises in the clip, just moments before Bell makes her show-stopping debut.

Director Tommy Wirkola is back at the helm for the sequel, fulfilling a promise he made back in to expand the Violent Night universe. At the time, Wirkola told The Hollywood Reporter that there were several elements he couldn’t wait to explore in a follow-up.

“We don’t see the North Pole, we don’t see Mrs. Claus and we don’t see the elves,” Wirkola previously shared. “There were also a few ideas that we loved in the script, but we had to cut them because we couldn’t afford to shoot them.”

Well, it looks like the budget is back, and the North Pole is bigger than ever. Joining Bell and Harbour in the chaos are franchise newcomers Daniela Melchior and Joe Pantoliano.

Fans are already calling the pairing of the Stranger Things star and the Frozen alum the “holiday crossover we didn’t know we needed.” One fan joked on Instagram, “Anna decided she’d rather fight than build a snowman, and I am here for it!”

Violent Night is produced by the action aficionados at North, including Kelly McCormick and David Leitch, with a script from the original team of Pat Casey and Josh Miller.

Mark your calendars—and maybe hide the breakables. Violent Night hits theaters on Dec. !
