Move over, Prince Adam—there’s a new hero in town!
The star-studded cast of Masters of the Universe brought some serious “big sword energy” to Las Vegas on Wednesday. Nicholas Galitzine and Camila Mendes took the stage at CinemaCon to give fans a first glimpse at the highly anticipated Amazon MGM Studios live-action film, and the internet is already losing it.
Based on the iconic s Mattel toy line, the film has been in “development hell” for years, but director Travis Knight proved the wait is finally over.
Galitzine, who plays Adam Glenn (better known as the legendary He-Man), walked out clutching a massive prop that would make any s kid jealous. “This is the sword of power — it’s ancient, mystical, very difficult to get through security,” the actor quipped to the laughing crowd. “I was told not to swing it, legally.”
But while Nicholas has the muscles and the steel, it was Riverdale alum Camila Mendes who stole the show in the first-look footage.
Playing the fierce warrior Teela, Mendes made her presence known in a clip that has fans on X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok cheering. The footage starts with Adam being teased as “Highlander” before he is suddenly ambushed by the terrifying Beast Man.
Just as things look bleak for our hero, Teela emerges from the shadows to save his life. “Adam, is it really you? You don’t recognize me?” she asks him before delivering the line fans have been waiting for: “Ready to go home?”
On stage, Mendes teased that the film is a visual feast in more ways than one. “There are so many muscles — more muscles than is necessary,” she joked, referencing the famously buff physiques of the Eternia residents.
However, she was quick to note that the movie has a huge heart underneath all that armor. “Strip all that away, and it’s about a kid that doesn’t feel that he’s enough,” she added, highlighting the emotional journey of Adam, a former Prince of Eternia who grew up on Earth.
Director Travis Knight, a self-proclaimed lifelong fan, told the audience that this project is a dream come true. “Masters of the Universe is something that I seriously loved as a kid,” he shared.
The film boasts a truly “super” cast, including Jared Leto as the villainous Skeletor, Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-at-Arms, and Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn. In a fun twist, Kristen Wiig is even lending her voice to the character Roboto!
The fan reaction online was instant. “Camila Mendes saving Nicholas Galitzine is the duo I never knew I needed,” one fan wrote on Instagram. Others were quick to praise the chemistry between the two leads, which was palpable even in the brief clip.
The road to the big screen has been long for He-Man. After the original action figures debuted in and the animated series became a cult classic in , Hollywood has tried for decades to bring the “Master” back to theaters.
With a script by the teams behind Spider-Verse and The Lost City, the new film is set to be a massive blockbuster event.
