Avengers: Doomsday Can Fulfill Oscar Isaac’s One Wish to Play His Favorite X-Men Hero as a Variant

While Oscar Isaac has the responsibility of bringing Moon Knight to life in the MCU, the star once expressed how he always wanted to play Wolverine on screen as well. In a past interview with Esquire, Isaac talked about how he was always a Wolverine fan growing up, saying:

It’s toss up between Wolverine and Archangel. But I have to go with Wolverine. As a smaller guy, you know Wolverine’s a little guy, in the comics at least he was. You know, furry and angry, and I could relate to that.

But with his involvement in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars still being unconfirmed in his own words (via ComicBook), his wish of becoming Wolverine in the MCU is also in limbo.

At the same time, with the reality-hopping shenanigans we witnessed in Deadpool and Wolverine, we still have a chance to see a variant of the character with Isaac’s familiar face.

Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars Will Begin the Age of X-Men in the MCU

While it may not seem apparent as to what Marvel Studios has planned for after the two-part finale films of Phase 6 of the MCU, Kevin Feige has already announced that it will be the age of X-Men that follows. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, the President of the studio revealed how he has a 10-year plan for the mutants of Marvel Comics to be the main focus.

Thus, as Phase 6 comes to an end, Phase 7 will heavily prioritize the introduction of more characters from the X-Men roster. We have already witnessed the presence of characters like X-23, Gambit, and Deadpool in Deadpool and Wolverine, with others like Kelsey Grammer’s Beast in The Marvels, who might also lead the X-Men in the near future.

And according to industry insider Jeff Sneider, a dedicated X-Men film has been in the pipeline for some time now, which might finally begin production in 2026. In a post made on his X, he posted about the updates.

I'm now hearing X-MEN will begin shooting next year for a 2027 release. That means official casting news likely coming in the next few months… along with a director announcement. Have a feeling that CinemaCon is gonna be nuts this year! https://t.co/htM9TN75SB

Here’s more information about the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.

Thus, with a fresh start to the MCU multiverse, Isaac might also get the chance to start anew with a character he’s wanted to play for a while. And considering Wolverine is one of the most crucial parts of the mutant group, Marvel Studios already has a candidate in the form of the Dune star.

Characters From Marvel Oscar Isaac Can Play in the MCU Besides Wolverine

While Wolverine may be his aim right now, it’s not like that’s the only character that Isaac may be good at playing in the MCU. Therefore, here are three most likely Marvel characters that the star would shine in if given the chance.

3. Hyperion

If Marvel ever brings Hyperion into the MCU, Isaac could nail the complex duality of the character. In the comics, the superhero is depicted as a godlike being who believes he’s saving the world, even when the opposite is true. Thus, with his performance in Moon Knight, depicting multiple clashing personalities, this role would be easy for him.

2. The Beyonder

As comic book readers might already know, The Beyonder is an interdimensional being of immense power, to takes a particular liking to humanity due to his curiosity with them. Thus, with an introspective and layered role like this, the star can do wonders, which is convincing after you watch his performances outside the MCU.

1. The Maker

Considered to be the biggest threat in the Marvel universe, this evil variant of Reed Richards is dark, manipulative, and infinitely cruel in his ways. And with Isaac’s dark performance as Jake Lockley in the season finale of Moon Knight, it’s only natural for The Maker to make his appearance in the franchise, possibly in Phase 7.
