With WBD being split up and sold to interested parties, DC’s IPs are also up for grabs for anyone who wants them. But as per recent reports (via Cosmic Book News), it seems like the acquisition of DC’s franchises and the potential revival of Zack Snyder’s DCEU are all thanks to President Donald Trump.
According to the reports, the Saudis, along with either Paramount Skydance or Comcast, are willing to make a deal for the complete acquisition of WBD’s operations, including streaming assets, studios, and other ventures. And if this deal makes it through, Henry Cavill might return as the Man of Steel on the big screen once more.
Details on the US-Saudi Investment That Will Bring the Snyderverse Back
In simple terms, the US-Saudi investment deal is a $1 trillion investment corridor that the United States will be developing with Saudi Arabia till the end of 2030 (via AstroLabs). This will include strategic investment of these funds over the years in industries like tech, renewables, infrastructure, tourism, energy, and many more.
Among them also includes the entertainment industry, which covers the film and gaming industries as well. As we have already seen with the investment of Saudi Arabia in the acquisition of Electronic Arts, they also have their eyes on a big chunk of the film and TV industry, and thankfully, WBD is up for grabs.
As per President Donald Trump’s personal preference, he would like Paramount Skydance to team with Saudi Arabian investment and take over the entire business of WBD in the deal. If not, then Comcast, which isn’t Trump’s choice, can also team up to take over Warner Bros., where the Saudis benefit from it either way.
Thus, with the acquisition relying on the investment and team-up under the President’s reign, Snyder is supporting Trump’s bet on the Saudis as well. Reportedly, this was also the reason why the filmmaker posted an image of Cavill as Superman on his Instagram on Veterans’ Day.
Why James Gunn and Zack Snyder Need to Team Up for a New DC Project
While the deal may go either way in the Saudi’s benefit, there’s still a chance that James Gunn’s DCU may be ditched following WBD’s sale to Paramount Skydance following his questionable political views.
But what will be more beneficial for either company that acquires WBD is to bring Gunn and Snyder together to develop a new DC project, or to collaborate on developing the next chapter of the Snyderverse. One way the collab can be beneficial is through a shared and balanced vision on either a new franchise or new projects.
While Snyder can bring the dark, rustic appeal of the Snyderverse, Gunn can add the Golden Age influence into it, creating a perfect balance that satisfies both DCU and DCEU fans, as well as bring in new ones.
At the same time, they can also influence each other’s respective franchises through creative collaborations or a chance for both of them to cross-direct a film under the DCU and Snyderverse.
