Will Pluribus and Breaking Bad Have a Crossover? Vince Gilligan Explains

By Paul Martinez 11/21/2025

Vince Gilligan has addressed the possibility of a crossover between his new Apple TV series, Pluribus, and the Breaking Bad universe. In a recent appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, Gilligan revealed that while Pluribus stands on its own as a post-apocalyptic sci-fi drama, fans may spot a few familiar touches.

“We might have some cameos. I don’t know if it’s…a little, we might have a few Easter eggs to throw your way,” he teased, noting he was initially hesitant about setting the series in Albuquerque, the same location as Breaking Bad.

Although it’s still unclear whether any characters will officially appear in the show, Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul have already fueled speculation by starring in a promotional teaser for the show.

Pluribus Becomes the Biggest Drama Launch on Apple TV+

Vince Gilligan’s Pluribus has officially become Apple TV+’s most-viewed drama of all time, breaking records within weeks of its debut.

Led by Better Call Saul star Rhea Seehorn, the series premiered with two episodes and immediately surged past the previous record holder, Severance Season 2, for the biggest global drama launch across Apple TV+’s more than 100 territories, as per Deadline.

Although official Nielsen ratings are still pending, early data indicate enormous viewer interest. The series reportedly amassed 6.4 million viewing hours in the U.S. during its first seven days. Apple TV+ secured Gilligan’s high-concept sci-fi project in 2022 with a rare two-season order.

Vince Gilligan Denies AI Influence on Pluribus

Episode 3 of the post-apocalyptic series has stirred unease among viewers, largely due to how far the hivemind will go to satisfy Carol, played by Rhea Seehorn.

No matter what she requests, the hive consciousness eagerly complies, an unsettling level of agreement that many viewers felt echoed the overly helpful, always-positive behavior of ChatGPT and other AI tools.

However, Gilligan has insisted the resemblance is coincidental.“I have not used ChatGPT,” Gilligan told Polygon in a recent interview, adding, “Because as of yet, no one has held a shotgun to my head and made me do it — I will never use it. No offense to anyone who does.”

Gilligan explained that the concept for the show predates modern AI entirely. He began developing the show a decade ago, long before tools like ChatGPT existed. Still, he welcomes viewers’ interpretations, saying, “I don’t want to tell people what this show is about.”

With four episodes now available and five still to come, the series continues to build mystery as it unravels the truth behind its eerie, post-apocalyptic world.
