Why Hollywood Won’t Hire Ruby Rose Anymore

By Kevin Thomas 11/12/2025

Do you still remember Ruby Rose from The CW’s Batwoman series? She was poised to become one of Hollywood’s fastest-rising stars, but it seemed like her career was over even before it started.

She had been in a couple of high-profile movies in the past, too, such as Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, John Wick: Chapter 2, and Pitch Perfect 3, so it’s a shame that she was not able to sustain and level up her game.

That said, she was also embroiled in several controversies, most notably her departure from the Batwoman series and, recently, her criticism of actress Sydney Sweeney. So, why is Hollywood no longer casting this Australian beauty?

1. Ruby Rose Had A Nasty ‘Batwoman’ Exit

The controversy surrounding her unceremonious exit from Batwoman began when she was hired to play Kate Kane, also known as Batwoman. DC Comics reintroduced the character in 2006 as a gay Jewish woman, and the actress received backlash for not being Jewish and gay enough.

In 2020, she announced that she would be leaving the show, citing an on-set injury. In 2021, she reasoned she had a latex allergy. Later that year, she revealed that then-President of Warner Bros TV, Peter Roth, allegedly forced her to return to work immediately after her surgery (via Celebrity Nine).

2. Ruby Rose Mostly Only Played LGBTQ Roles

Rose is vocal about her gender fluidity, and it has proven to be advantageous for projects featuring LGBTQ characters. Her androgynous features also make her stand out, but because of these traits, too, she was typecast into similar and limited roles.

There isn’t a variety in her filmography and the characters she portrayed, which makes it hard for producers and filmmakers to cast her in other types of roles.

3. Ruby Rose Was Allegedly Difficult to Work With

Related to her Batwoman controversy, Warner Bros TV fired back at Rose’s allegations and revealed that the reason they parted ways with her was due to “multiple complaints about workplace behavior” that the company had reviewed and handled privately (via TheWrap).

An insider also revealed that the investigation went on for months before the studio ultimately decided to replace the actress for Season 2.

4. Ruby Rose Previously Quit Hollywood

Due to the intense backlash, Rose relocated to Australia in November 2021. She briefly stepped back from Hollywood and even deactivated all of her social media accounts. She did appear in a couple of films, but mostly in small-budget and independent ones.

5. Ruby Rose Was Nominated For Razzie Awards

Rose starred in the 2021 action thriller Vanquish, which earned her an embarrassing Razzie Awards nod for Worst Actress.

In the movie, she played a mother attempting to move beyond her past as a Russian drug mule until Morgan Freeman’s character abducted her daughter and forced her to obey his plans. Critics lambasted the film and gave it a dismal 5% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

6. Ruby Rose’s Stage Debut Earned Harsh Reviews

Her venture into stage acting wasn’t as welcoming as she had hoped. Despite confessing she did not feel nervous about working in a theatrical production, her confidence was not enough to save the project.

2:22 – A Ghost Story, which was presented at Her Majesty’s Theatre in Melbourne, received scathing reviews, with The Age calling Rose’s character confused and incomprehensible.

7. Ruby Rose Sparked Feud With Sydney Sweeney

Recently, Rose made headlines after she blamed Sweeney for the failure of the biopic Christy. Writing on Threads, the Australian star said that the original script was incredible and that she was originally attached to play Cherry. Then, she said:

For her PR to talk about it flopping and saying SS did it for the ‘people.’ None of ‘the people’ want to see someone who hates them, parading around pretending to be us.

Rose ended her statement with a brutal remark for Sweeney, saying she is a “cretin” and that she ruined the film. The controversial take received mixed reviews from fans, with some supporting Rose and others defending the Euphoria actress.
