Who played Hermione Granger in Harry Potter?

The English actress Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson, better known as Emma Watson, played Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter film series. Well-known for her roles in independent and blockbuster movies, she has won several awards, including three MTV Movie Awards and a Young Artist Award.

In 2015, Time magazine named Watson one of the 100 most influential people in the world, while Forbes and Vanity Fair have put her among the highest-paid actresses in the world. Additionally, Watson was named an honoree on Forbes' 2015 and 2016 30 under 30 list.

Emma Watson’s career breakthrough with the Harry Potter films

Casting for Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone started in 1999. Watson's Oxford theatrical teacher introduced her to the casting agents. Although she had performed in school plays, she had never appeared in a movie.

When she was nine years old, she went to her first audition. Rowling backed Watson's casting following her initial screen test, even though she had to try out eight times in total before landing the part. Before Watson was cast, the creators thought about using Hatty Jones.

Watson made her movie debut in 2001 with the release of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

The film was the highest-grossing movie of 2001 and set records for both opening-day and opening-weekend receipts. Watson received special praise from critics; IGN claimed she "stole the show" and The Daily Telegraph dubbed her performance "admirable." Watson won the Young Artist Award for Leading Young Actress and had five award nominations for her role in Philosopher's Stone. She was selected as one of the 2001 Breakout Performers by Entertainment Weekly. Subsequently, Watson appeared in the rest of the film series, marking her ground as a successful actress in Hollywood.

Emma Watson in the Harry Potter film series

Emma Watson portrayed Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter film series which is based on the fantasy novels by J.K. Rowling. She made her debut as a first-year student en route to Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (1997). After they save her from a troll in the girls' restroom, she becomes friends with Ron Weasley and Harry Potter. Hermione often assists her friends in dangerous circumstances by drawing on her encyclopedic knowledge, quick wit, and sharp memory.

According to Rowling, Hermione's insecurities and dread of failing are similar to those of any young girl. Hermione's character gained great popularity. According to a 2016 Hollywood Reporter survey of industry insiders, Emma Watson's portrayal of the character in all eight Harry Potter movies was chosen as the greatest female character of all time.

Although Rowling has stated that the two characters have very little in common, Hermione's first name was derived from a character in William Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale. Hermione's parents, according to Rowling, are the kind of people who would give their daughter a unique name to demonstrate how clever they are. "Puckle" was Hermione's initial last name, but Rowling eventually decided it did not fit her.
