Stranger Things’ Gaten Matarazzo is super famous for his acting onscreen, but did you know he has a girlfriend as well? And not just a new one, but that fan-beloved Dustin portrayer has actually been dating actress Elizabeth Yu, aka Lizzy Yu, for more than seven years now!
In fact, the pair have long made it Instagram official as well. While the two haven’t been too public about their relationship, they have been dating since 2018 (per ComingSoon.net). In 2021, he even posted a sweet note on her birthday, sharing a Polaroid image of the two on Instagram with the caption,
Happy Birthday to one of the funniest, sweetest, kindest, most loving people I’ve ever known. I hope this day was as incredible as you could have ever wanted. Also you’re still a loser. 🖕❤️ Happy 19th goob. Love you
They also posted together on Halloween, dressed as “Space grandma” and grandpa. Then, in 2022, he celebrated their fourth anniversary with a photo of Lizzy, captioning the post as,
Four years? That’s dope. I love you. Thanks for being my best friend. Happy anniversary goob.
Plus, in an interview with Esquire that same year, it was revealed that he was living in his own New Jersey apartment with his girlfriend of four years and three cats – just at the age of 19!
In 2023, another anniversary post followed, with Matarazzo posting a carousel of the couple’s photos and Lizzy’s single shots together with the caption (via Instagram),
Holy sh-t. Five years. And yet again. I miss the post by one minute. Thanks for putting up with me every day. I love you.
Then, last year, in January, he posted one more photo of the two together, with the caption revealing that the pair had spent New Year’s in Palm Springs at the Monterey Manor (via Instagram). Since then, though, his feed has been busier keeping up with the Stranger Things promotions and his other interviews and ads.
Lizzy, on the other hand, posted some Gaten+Lizzy crumbs earlier this year, in August, on Instagram, confirming that the two were very much still together, so fans don’t need to worry about them for sure!

While Gaten Matarazzo and his girlfriend, Lizzy Yu, appear to be spending some pretty good times together, here’s a closer look at the girl who appears to have stolen the fans’ favorite Stranger Things star’s heart.
Born Elizabeth Yu on October 6, 2022, Lizzy is actually an American actress. While her father is Korean, her mother is American with German, Irish, and Polish ancestry. She has been in a relationship with Matarazzo since 2018.
In December 2021, she was cast as Azula, the princess of the Fire Nation, in the titular live-action Netflix series of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Her first credit in film, on the other hand, came in 2022, with the flick Somewhere in Queens. Plus, she also starred as Ruby, a college student in Year One, a coming-of-age film by Lauren Loesberg.
Her most recent acting credits, meanwhile, include her gig in Todd Haynes’ Black comedy May December in 2023. Yu was also cast in 2024’s Womb as Ha-Yoon and Black Spines as Shawn. Additionally, her upcoming show, Murder by the Book, where she plays Young Maggie, is also reportedly in its post-production stage, as of this writing.

Looking at everything known about their relationship timeline so far, Gaten Matarazzo certainly seems to be in love. And, well, his family approves, too!
As it turns out, the Stranger Things star’s family loves his girlfriend, Lizzy Yu, as well. Back in 2018, he confessed about the same to Us Weekly at Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights in September, saying,
My family loves her, she’s great. My brother and my sister get along with her great.
Well, if even his family approves of her, then wedding bells might as well be ringing in soon for this couple. After all, they have been in a relationship for more than seven years now!
