David Beckham faced one of the biggest scandals of his life more than two decades ago, when rumors about the sports star allegedly cheating on his wife, Victoria Beckham, started circulating. The rumors were sparked in 2003 when Beckham was spotted with a mystery woman.
The woman was later reportedly identified as Rebecca Loos, Beckham’s personal assistant at the time, who publicly claimed in 2004 that she had been having an affair with the football star. “It’s better that it comes from me and that I have some sort of control,” she said of her decision to come out in 2004.
Though Beckham has denied the allegations made by Loos, she doubled down on her claims in a 2025 interview with 60 Minutes Australia, saying,
It was a very brave thing to do, to go up against them — I have stuck to the truth, I’ve never exaggerated. I never lied about a single thing. Why? Because I’m going up against the strongest, most powerful couple in the media. And all I had on my side was the truth.
During the recent interview, Loos also recalled being tempted, saying, “He just kept looking at me and I gave in.” According to her claims, the affair occurred after Beckham moved to Spain to play for Real Madrid, while Victoria stayed behind in the UK with their children, Brooklyn and Romeo.
Rebecca Loos Was Not Alone in Claiming an Affair With David Beckham
David Beckham denied the claims made by Rebecca Loos in a public statement, as per The Guardian. The statement stated,
During the past few months, I have become accustomed to reading more and more ludicrous stories about my private life — The simple truth is that I am very happily married and have a wonderful wife and two very special kids. There is nothing any third party can do to change this.
However, Rebecca Loos was not the only woman to come forward with claims of having an affair with David Beckham. Two more women, Sarah Marbeck and Celina Laurie, alleged that Beckham allegedly cheated on Victoria Beckham with them, according to Marie Claire.
Both women reportedly claimed that they had slept with Beckham in 2001 and 2002, respectively. In response, the couple issued a joint statement. “The couple continue to dismiss these stories and they will not be commenting upon them further at this time,” the statement read, as per The Guardian.
What Did David Beckham Say About Rebecca Loos’ Claims?
After initially denying the allegations made against him by his former assistant, Rebecca Loos, David Beckham reflected on the difficult period for his marriage in his 2023 Netflix documentary, Beckham.
“There was some horrible stories that were difficult to deal with,” he said, as per People, adding, “It was the first time that me and Victoria had been put under that kind of pressure in our marriage.” He continued,
I don’t know how we got through it in all honesty. Victoria’s everything to me. To see her hurt was incredibly difficult. But, we’re fighters. And at that time, we needed to fight for each other, we needed to fight for our family. And what we had was worth fighting for.
Victoria Beckham also reflected on the tough times, admitting, “It felt like the world was against us.” She also admitted, “And here’s the thing — we were against each other if I’m being completely honest.”
Rebecca Loos also shared her response in a 2023 interview with Daily Mail, saying, “He needs to take responsibility.” She also criticized Beckham for “portraying himself as the victim” and revisiting the scandal decades later, claiming it has affected her reputation.
However, she also expressed regret over the way she handled the situation initially. “I was very sorry for what I had done and the way I handled it,” she said, adding that she has learned from her mistakes and doesn’t want to harm anyone or their families.
Victoria Beckham on Staying Strong With Husband David Beckham
Victoria Beckham has remained largely quiet on the issue until a 2007 interview with W Magazine, where she admitted that it was a difficult period for the couple and their family.
“I’m not going to lie. It was a really tough time,” she said, adding, “It was hard for our entire families. But I realized a lot of people have a price.” However, she emphasized that they got through it together. “We’ve come out of everything we’ve been through stronger and happier,” she added.
The former Spice Girl member and fashion designer also opened up about the rumors in the 2023 Netflix docuseries, calling it “the hardest period” for the couple.
You know, up until Madrid, sometimes it felt like us against everybody else, but we were together, we were connected, we had each other. But when we were in Spain, it didn’t really feel like we had each other either. And that’s sad.
She also admitted feeling resentment towards her husband at the time. However, she also internalized much of her pain to stay mindful of the public and the attention David’s situation required.
Most recently, Beckham once again reflected on the difficult time period during her 2025 appearance on Alex Cooper’s podcast, Call Her Daddy, saying,
You know we’ve had so much thrown at us, and we were talking about it because we’ve recently celebrated our 26th wedding anniversary, and by the way, people said it wouldn’t work. 26 years, we’ve had so much, so much thrown at us, and we’ve always just been there together and just ridden the storm.
The couple has indeed remained together, celebrating their 26th wedding anniversary this July (Instagram). They share four children: Brooklyn Beckham, Romeo Beckham, Cruz Beckham, and Harper Beckham.
Rebecca Loos is now a married mother of two and works as a yoga teacher. Though she expressed regret over how she handled the 2004 affair scandal, but maintains that her claims were truthful.
