Selena Gomez is once again under speculation for the latest visible changes to her face. In the music video of her latest track In The Dark, which was released on Thursday, October 23, as part of the Nobody Wants This Season 2 soundtrack, the pop icon’s face looked evidently thinner, sparking speculation about excessive use of Botox and fillers.
The music video featured the singer sporting a black leotard, a two-piece, and a glossy leather jacket, with the visuals of the clip ostensibly inspired by ‘80s music. Zeroing in on her facial appearance, over the high cheekbones and slick jawline in her face, Gomez also debuted a new, piecey fringe that contrasts with her usual blunt bob.

These changes, of course, could be the result of a combination of factors, including makeup artistry, natural aging, as well as her health-related issues, like lupus and its treatments, which can cause temporary facial changes.
However, some fans are convinced that the changes might as well have been caused by the excessive use of Botox and fillers, thus sparking a debate about what changed Gomez’s face.
Fans Are Debating About Selena Gomezʼs Latest Facial Transformation

In the In The Dark music video, the changes in Selena Gomez’s face are more than just evident, so it’s only understandable why fans might put the billionaire singer under scrutiny over the same. On the one hand, some fans are convinced she chose to get fillers, while on the other hand, other fans are defending Gomez, citing her health issues.
All in all, taking to X, here’s how fans have been criticizing and defending her:
Fillers are a PLAGUE
What are people doing to their faces?? https://t.co/cWvuNOWdhf
She’s on anti-rejection drugs for her kidney transplant, plus meds for lupus. Be a loving human, she has serious health issues. You wouldn’t want us picking your appearance apart. Don’t be wretched people.
So true, she just got fat and instead of actually working out lol did fillers and made her face worse
I'm 40. I can't guess how old any of these girls are. Between 25-50 they don't look any different. The fillers and half inch contouring make up make young young girls look so much older. They look like older women trying to look young.
Maybe she got it done to correct the facial deformities caused by her Lupus. Filler often always looks a bit ridiculous for the first few months but then it balances out into a much more natural look.
My face already looks bloated and moon-like most days and I wish it were slimmer, so I’ll never understand the phenomenon of doing this on purpose
In fairness to her, she takes anti rejection drugs for the kidney (?) transplant she had, & they do tend to make the person puffy with Cushing’s Syndrome.
i dont think this is all fillers – she's sick, has lupus i believe? which comes with puffyness and inflammation
For those who might be unversed, Lupus is a life-threatening chronic autoimmune disease. Due to its medical complications, The Heart Wants What It Wants singer even had to undergo a kidney transplant in 2017, which was donated to her by actress Francia Raisa.
A side effect of long-term usage of certain medications for this autoimmune disease is ‘moon face’, which causes a puffy, rounded appearance to the face (as per the Cleveland Clinic).
Selena Gomez Previously Opened Up About Using Botox

While the debates about her alleged Botox and filler usage continue to rage, it’s worth noting that Selena Gomez previously opened up about using Botox. This goes back to 2024, when the 32-year-old singer came across a video on TikTok that discussed the “changes” in her face over the years, and seemingly had had enough of those talks.
Taking to the comment section, she wrote back then (via Billboard),
Honestly I hate this. I was on stripes because of [a] flare up. I have Botox. That’s it. Leave me alone.
As explained before, the medications for lupus can cause significant changes in a person’s face, so it’s okay even if she took the help of Botox to try and manage the side effects. As for fillers, she has never admitted to using them before, so that’s that too.
Either way, it’s time fans actually left Selena Gomez alone, once and for all, and stopped making such a big fuss about her facial transformations. After all, it’s her life and face at the end of the day, no? Don’t you agree?
