Alan Hamel is keeping his late wife, Suzanne Somers’ memory alive by building an AI clone of her. According to Hamel, he had discussed the plans of bringing an AI twin of the actress into the world with her before her death (via PEOPLE).

He shared, “One of the projects that we have coming up is a really interesting project, the Suzanne AI Twin.” Hamel presented the demo of this project at a conference earlier this year, where he called the AI twin “perfect.” He shared:

It was Suzanne. And I asked her a few questions and she answered them, and it blew me and everybody else away. When you look at the finished one next to the real Suzanne, you can’t tell the difference.

Here is a look at the actress’s AI clone, which was modeled after her look in Three’s Company.

Suzanne Somers’ husband says he’s created an AI clone of his late wife, two years after her death.

The digital twin was built using her voice, interviews, and personal memories.

Hamel further shared that the clone looked exactly like his wife, adding that he couldn’t tell the difference between what’s real and what’s AI. He shared, “I’ve been with Suzanne for 55 years, so I know what her face looks like, and when I just look at the two of them side by side, I really can’t tell which one is the real and which one is the AI.”

Not all fans were thrilled by this idea of an AI clone of the actress. Some fans disagreed with Hamel’s claim that it was hard to spot the difference between the AI clone and the real actress.

How Did Alan Hamel Come Up With an AI Clone of Suzanne Somers?

Alan Hamel revealed that he and Suzanne Somers had been discussing AI since the 1980s. He shared that the concept was first explained to them by computer scientist Ray Kurzweil. Hamel commented on their relationship with Kurzweil:

We have been friends with Ray Kurzweil. Bill Gates described Ray Kurzweil as the smartest man on the planet, which he is. And he became our friend 30-some years ago and we talked about this. We knew it was coming. It took decades to happen, but he knew it was going to happen, and he shared that information with us.

As for how he created his wife’s AI clone, he shared that the AI was trained with Somers’s “27 books and a lot of interviews.” He shared that the AI twin was “ready to be able to be asked any question at all and be able to answer it, because the answer will be within her.”

He shared that it was Somers’ idea, sharing, “She said, ‘Let’s do it.’ So that’s the reason we did it. And so I love being able to fulfill her wish.” He also shared that he was concerned that their family might not be on board with the idea. However, their family loved the idea.

Suzanne Somers’ Relationship With Her Husband Alan Hamel

Suzanne Somers and Alan Hamel met on the set of the marriage competition show, The Anniversary Game, in 1969. They got married in 1977, and they remained inseparable until her death in October 2023. Somers once shared about Hamel, “[He] turned on women and turned on men” (via PEOPLE).

They purchased a Palm Springs property in 1977 to escape from the paparazzi and settled there. In the early ’80s, Hamel became her manager. Hamel shared during an interview with Inc. in 2006:

When Suzanne was doing Three’s Company, I was doing a television series in Canada. I noticed her manager was making a lot of short-term deals for her, not career-oriented, long-term deals. I wanted to stop doing the TV show in Canada, so we decided to terminate the manager and I’d take over. We’ve been doing it that way ever since.

She famously appeared in the ThighMasters commercial alongside Hamel. In 2000, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Hamel recalled the moment he heard the news, “It was like a black cloud descended. That day was the saddest day of my life” (via PEOPLE).

Somers was infamous for promoting certain drugs. The Three’s Company star became a wellness guru and championed bioidentical hormones, which were deemed by the medical community as potentially harmful.

During her appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Somers described her routine to remain young-looking and attractive (via LA Times). She revealed that she injected hormones into her vagina and took 60 pills a day. According to ABC News, the actress also called HGH “s*x in a capsule.”
