Tobey Maguire is rumored to be returning to the MCU once again, but this time, his fans may not be happy for one specific reason. Spider-Man’s possible appearance in Avengers: Doomsday has been a hot topic of discussion lately.
Now, according to well-known industry insider Daniel Richtman, Maguire’s Spider-Man will be the one seen in the upcoming Doomsday, but there’s a catch. DanielRPK’s report claims that Maguire will be wearing a CGI suit in the film, instead of going the old-fashioned route.

Using CGI to make super suits is nothing new. For example, take a look at the behind-the-scenes of making Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man: Far From Home suits:
However, fans are not happy with the rumor. Many don’t seem to care about the fact that Maguire may be beyond his prime now, at least when it comes to playing Peter Parker.
He may not have the same athletic build he did back in the early ’00s, but fans still want him to stay true to his character and don an actual Spidey suit. Take a look at how some have reacted to the news:

On the other hand, there are some who don’t care what Marvel Studios is doing with Maguire’s suit, as long as it resembles the OG one. For now, fans are simply content with the possibility that Maguire might be returning to the superhero universe.
A fan wrote, “Tobey swinging back in any form still feels unreal in the best way”, while another replied, “As long as it resembles the OG suit. I wanna see some insane Spidey feats from the established Spider-Man he is…“
Tobey Maguire Would Return to Play Spider-Man in a Heartbeat
When Maguire reprised his role after a long, long time in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the fandom collectively lost its mind. His and Andrew Garfield‘s variants may have returned to their universes at the end, but they left behind hope that we’d get to have them back one day.
A couple of years ago, Maguire was asked if he would want to come back and play Spider-Man in the MCU one more time. He replied that his answer would be an immediate yes.
In the Spider-Man: No Way Home: The Official Movie Special book, Maguire was quoted as saying (via IGN):
I love these films and I love all of the different series. If the guys called me and said, ‘would you show up tonight to hang out and goof around?’ or ‘would you show up to do this movie or read a scene or do a Spider-Man thing?’, it would be a ‘yes!’ Because why wouldn’t I want to do that?
While his return remains a mystery for now, we at least know that if Marvel went calling, there’s a strong chance he answered.
Could Andrew Garfield Be Joining Tobey Maguire for Avengers: Doomsday
Now, what about the other Peter Parker we love to no end? After all, Garfield’s return would only take Avengers: Doomsday to insane heights. Participating in GQ‘s interview, the actor was asked point-blank if he’s in the upcoming Avengers film.
His answer couldn’t have been clearer: “No. Unequivocally f*cking no.” Of course, fans aren’t really going to believe anything he says after what happened in No Way Home…
Well, he may or may not be in Doomsday, but he doesn’t mind the idea of playing Peter again. Talking to Esquire in 2024, Garfield stated,
I would 100 percent come back if it was the right thing, if it’s additive to the culture, if there’s a great concept or something that hasn’t been done before that’s unique and odd and exciting and that you can sink your teeth in.
He added, “I love that character, and it brings joy. If part of what I bring is joy, then I’m joyful in return.“
Garfield also told ET Bil Arabi at the Middle East Film & Comic Con in Abu Dhabi that he would love to return as Spider-Man to do “something very strange.” Not only does he want to go all out for his return, but he wants to have the creative freedom we saw in the animated Spider-Verse movies.
