For months, rumors kept swirling about Tom Cruise and Ana de Armas‘ growing romance. However, nine months after what seemed like the next major Hollywood couple, the two have reportedly parted ways. US Weekly reported that Armas was the one who opted to step back as the relationship was moving at a faster pace than she anticipated.
Tom and Ana are done for now. It was more Ana’s decision because things were moving fast, and she started to get a little uncomfortable with how fast it was going.
This isn’t to say the two have ended things on a bitter note, as the same source clarified that Armas’ decision to split didn’t stem from a place of malice, and a rekindling of their romance remains possible in the foreseeable future.
Tom Cruise and Ana de Armas Reportedly Remain on Good Terms
Despite growing fond of each other, with reports suggesting that Cruise was really supportive of the Ballerina star, Armas pulled the plug as it was moving way too fast. However, it appears the duo is still on good terms, which isn’t surprising, as Armas previously described her experience working with Cruise for the upcoming deep-sea thriller, Deeper, as very enjoyable.

For the unversed, the duo have joined forces for a big-budget deep-sea thriller, and for the better part of the year, the duo have been training immensely for their part, which isn’t surprising given Cruise’s knack for practical shooting. While their experience on set also kick-started their reported romance, Armas has now shifted her focus to upcoming projects.
They spent every day together in preparation and training for the intense underwater sequences. It started as a deep professional respect, and then it ignited. Tom was completely captivated by Ana… On a personal level, she enjoyed his company, and he was fun to be with. One of the things that attracted her most to him was he supported her and everything she wanted to do.
The Knives Out star still wants to stay friends with the actor, and they reportedly haven’t denounced the prospect of getting back together.
What’s Happening With Tom Cruise and Ana de Armas’s Deep Sea Thriller?
Coming back to the movie that commenced their reported relationship in the first place, Deeper has been in some deep waters, which is indeed surprising given the involvement of Armas and the biggest movie star in the world.

Originally part of WB, execs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy, who have been on a roll with the media giant’s 2025 slate, weren’t too thrilled about the movie’s steep budget, reported to be $275M (via Puck). As a result, the project was dropped, and it seemed Universal was Cruise’s next best option.
Although there has been nothing but radio silence ever since, with Armas and Cruise now apparently taking a break, the movie’s state seems uncertain. Hopefully, news regarding the project will be disclosed soon enough.
