Diane Keaton did not commit to a movie or TV project before her death. It was earlier suggested that she knew about her deteriorating health and was preparing for the worst in her final days. According to RadarOnline, Keaton was creating a Christmas song for her children, daughter Dexter, 29, and son Duke, 25.
She allegedly called the song “Comfort Blanket” and told her friends that the song was meant to console her “soon-to-be-grieving” children. She had told her friends that she wanted the song “to wrap her family in love when she no longer could.”
The lyrics of her song included lines like: “Now I wish that I could let go, it’s a silent night, it’s another year, the first Christmas without you here.” An industry insider source told Radar that Keaton “knew her time was coming” and wanted to leave “something soft and lasting” for her children. The insider also claimed:
Diane told us this song wasn’t just about loss – it was about love surviving it. She said, ‘When I’m gone, I want them to play it and feel me still singing to them.’
Last year, Diane Keaton released her first and only song, First Christmas. She collaborated with Carol Bayer Sager for the song. A source told Radar, “Working on First Christmas together was her way of saying goodbye without saying it.”
Diane Keaton’s Friends Recall Her Final Days and Collaboration for the Song

Diane Keaton and Carol Bayer Sager first met in the 1980s but collaborated only during the pandemic. Sager recalled visiting Keaton just weeks before her death. She shared that Keaton wasn’t done creating despite her declining health. Sager shared (via RadarOnline):
I saw her two or three weeks ago, and she was very thin. She had lost so much weight. I was kind of stunned. But she was still full of ideas, talking about future songs. That’s the part that breaks my heart – she wasn’t done creating.
Jonas Myrin, who played the piano and wrote First Christmas, shared that Keaton had brought her lifelong dream to reality. He shared:
To have been trusted to help bring her lifelong dream of recording an original song to life is something I’ll carry with me forever. First Christmas, which I co-wrote with Carole and produced for Diane last year, became her first and final song, and now those words hold a meaning I could have never imagined.
A close friend of Keaton revealed to Radar that the actress’s health went downhill after the LA wildfires forced her to leave her longtime home. They shared:
She was heartbroken about losing that house. It wasn’t just a property – it was part of her identity. After the move to Palm Springs, she became more reclusive. It’s like she knew she needed peace to say goodbye on her own terms.
Diane Keaton had long-term relationships with legendary actors Al Pacino and Warren Beatty. She was also involved with Woody Allen, even defending the director against the accusations that he s*xually assaulted his daughter, Dylan Farrow.
