Shania Twain Wrote 1 Song With Celine Dion in Mind — And Has ‘Never Mentioned’ It to Her (Exclusive)

Shania Twain initially penned one track from her discography with Celine Dion in mind — but never told her.

“‘From This Moment On’ is the one I least expected to be so big and so timeless because I really didn’t want to record the song myself. I wrote it because I wanted Celine Dion to sing it,” Twain, 59, confessed in the latest Us Weekly cover story, while discussing the final dates of her Queen of Me Tour. (The Live Nation tour begins in Buffalo, New York, on July 19 and concludes August 1 in Hollywood, Florida.)

Twain explained that she “didn’t have access” to Dion, 56, at the time, noting, “She probably didn’t even know who I was.” Instead, Twain’s producer insisted that the tune should go on her record.

“I’m like, ‘Oh, brother.’ I wrote the wrong song for my voice because I was thinking about Celine Dion. I was really thinking about it being this pop power ballad, but it worked for me,” Twain told Us. “It’s really a big, big ballad for me.”

Twain “never did mention” her intention to Dion. “I figure that’s too late now. It’s already my hit. She can’t have it now,” Twain joked with a laugh.

While taking a trip down memory lane with her several hits, Twain recalled calling out Brad Pitt in her late ‘90s anthem “That Don’t Impress Me Much.” In the tune, Twin sings, “You think you’re something else / OK, so you’re Brad Pitt.”

To this day, Twain claimed Pitt, 61, has “never reached out to say, ‘Please, would you take my name out of this song?’ or anything like that. Hopefully he finds it funny.”

With a career spanning several decades and more than 100 million records sold worldwide (she’s the best-selling female country artist of all time!), Twain told Us that she doesn’t “have anything left to prove.”

“Even thinking about age, I don’t feel like I need to prove to anyone that I look younger than I am. I’d rather focus more on the things that I can change or contribute to — I can create magic through music, and I have a lot I want to achieve and have fun with, whether it’s music or film. I’d like to write and produce another artist’s album,” she told Us. “There’s just so many things. I keep saying I’m going to have to live to be 120!”
