Sabrina Carpenter graced Saturday Night Live for a double-duty hosting and performing, but what caught fans’ attention was her short speech addressing the controversies surrounding her public image. The singer explained:
Now, since I’m here, I want to clear up some misconceptions people have about me. Everyone thinks of me as this, like, horndog pop star, but there’s really so much more to me. I’m not just h*rny. I’m also turned on. And I’m s*xually charged. And I love to read. My favorite book is The Encyclopedia. It’s so big and it’s hard and—wait, seriously. Okay, sorry. There is a real person underneath all the sparkles and the wigs and the corsets.
Carpenter’s monologue drew mixed reactions from fans, with some admiring how she was so charming and funny the whole time, while others thought her speech was underwhelming.
The Manchild singer is evidently aware of the buzz surrounding her online persona, though she keeps her cool and remains unbothered by the criticisms.
Sabrina Carpenter Firmly Denies Speculations Claiming She’s The “H*rniest Girl Alive”

This is not the first time Carpenter shut down speculations about her being a “horndog popstar.” In fact, she gave a more serious answer during her interview with Vanity Fair magazine.
When asked about people’s assumption of her, that clearly isn’t true, it’s when they say she’s the “h*rniest girl alive.” Carpenter acknowledged that some of her songs had controversial lyrics and some of her performances on stage may look provocative. The Nonsense singer said that it’s only a matter of enjoying herself while doing what she’s passionate about.
A lot of it is because I’m able to kind of have fun and play. You know, when I’m doing these live shows, it’s just a matter of not taking things too seriously. I love play on words and I love funny innuendos; It’s just always been something that makes me laugh.
Carpenter may look like she skyrocketed to fame overnight, but the pop icon has been in the industry for more than a decade. In fact, she’s starred in several movies and television shows over the years, until she achieved her breakthrough with the global hit Espresso.
Man’s Best Friend Album Cover Controversy Debunked

In the same SNL monologue, Carpenter revealed a hilarious story behind the controversial album cover of Man’s Best Friend. This was her full explanation:
And since then, my new album, Man’s Best Friend, came out, which I’m so excited about. But some people got a little freaked out by the cover. I’m not sure why. It was just this. Me on all fours with an unseen figure pulling my hair, but what people don’t realize is that’s just how they cropped it. If you zoom out, it’s clearly a picture from the 50th anniversary special of Bowen helping me up by the hair. After Martin Short shoved me out of the buffet line, saying something like, “Daddy need his mini quiche.”
Since the release of the album, fans were quick to air their frustration over the image. Some related it to issues of domestic abuse, while others perceived it as objectifying women. Carpenter, on the other hand, said she does not give weight to any of the public’s criticism.
