By Richard Johnson 10/24/2025

2NE1 member Park Bom has been making headlines recently for her explosive alleged lawsuit against YG Entertainment co-founder, Yang Hyan-suk. Now, the K-pop icon has further opened up about the mistreatment she faced at the hands of her former label.

Park’s plastic surgery has sparked conversations for a long time now, with some going out of their way to make unwanted comments about her changed appearance. Take a look:

y’all need to STOP with posts like this. how can you call yourself a Park Bom fan acc and post “recent” pics saying “i hate YG for this”??? you’re literally calling her ugly. she’s been out of YG for years and still does plastic surgery— and that’s okay. let her live in peace. pic.twitter.com/xbVP8pAVvU

I always ask myself, she was so beautiful.

Why did she need plastic surgery? pic.twitter.com/sD4o7k4UQE

Even if you look at her Instagram account, you’ll find her grid full of extremely edited selfies that make her look completely different.

In a now-deleted post, Park opened up about what exactly made her want to go down a path where she was forced to change her face.

Via a translation of her post (via X), here’s what she said in the post that’s no longer on her account:

They claimed they deliberately messed up my appearance just to make fun of me. When I think about it, YG never paid for any of my plastic surgery. I paid for one or two procedures out of my own pocket. In other words, I was performing on stage at the level of an ‘average person.’ Once, they suddenly came up to me on the stairs and apologized. When I asked why, they said they used the topic of plastic surgery to sell me.

Park added that YG Entertainment never financially compensated her, and that she had to pay for her dermatologist visits by herself, too. She added, “They never let me do a single magazine photoshoot.

Distasteful Comments by YG Entertainment Co-Founder Yang Hyun-Suk

This isn’t the first time YG Entertainment has come under fire for their alleged comments and actions when it comes to the members of 2NE1. Band member CL opened up about the label in an interview over a decade ago, claiming that Yang Hyun-suk would openly call them ugly on their faces.

Via Soompi, she recalled:

We [2NE1] are a girl group. He keeps saying that we are ugly…YG came to a concert rehearsal once. When we do a rehearsal we don’t put on any makeup. He looked from afar into the screen and said ‘Ah… They are really ugly.’ In front of all the staff! I was a bit disappointed.

That’s not all, though. YG also represents another popular girl group, Blackpink, and apparently, Yang once called them the prettier version of 2NE1. Well, technically, he didn’t say the statement out loud, but his statements did point in that direction (via Dungeon-Life).

Factoring in looks while forming Blackpink, Yang said, “YG has always tried to reverse the trend. But, with BLACKPINK, I wanted to reverse YG’s trend. I wanted to go in a direction that we’ve never tried before. Looks are in fact quite important.

He added that while YG has always prioritized talent over looks, he wanted to do something different this time around. Yang said, “But because we’ve done this for the past 20 years, I started to think that I wanted to make a girl group that is talented and pretty a few years ago.”

He continued,

It was different when I made 2NE1 or BIG MAMA. I just wanted to do something that I haven’t done before. But, I don’t want their music too be cute and pretty as well. I want them to be a team that does YG-style music but pretty.

Meanwhile, Blackpink’s Jisoo addressed the comparison between them and 2NE1, stating, “they are seniors to us, and we want to be like them. We shouldn’t be compared, Blackpink just need to follow in the footsteps of 2NE1.”

Park Bom’s Explosive Complaint Against YG Entertainment

Park Bom broke the Internet when she posted about an alleged lawsuit against YG Entertainment for fraud and embezzlement, demanding about $4.5 quadrillion. While the number could’ve been a typo, it sure managed to get the attention of everyone around the globe.

As per the translated post: “The defendant has not paid the plaintiff the proceeds that are rightfully due him for a long period of time, and we seek a thorough investigation and legal punishment for this.

Park Bom announced on her Instagram page that she will take legal action against YG Entertainment and Yang Hyun Suk for financial corruption and fraud.

This could also mean that this is the real reason why Bom did not participate in 2NE1’s recent activities. We stand with you! pic.twitter.com/fQL1VoQRXr

On the other hand, her agency, D-Nation, tried putting the fire out with a statement of their own, claiming that the lawsuit was never filed. They wrote, “Park Bom is out of our control as well. We are currently looking into the details of her lawsuit against Yang Hyun Suk” (via Complex).

The statement continued to add that Park has already been fairly compensated by YG for her activities, and there is no record showing that any complaint has been officially filed.

However, in another twist, Park’s recently deleted statement claimed that she is not signed to any music label as of now, contrary to popular belief that she is still being represented by D-Nation (via X).

All in all, the facts seem to be all over the place. With Park telling her side of the story, people do not know exactly what to believe at the time. While the majority seems to be standing with Park, do let us know your take in the comments section below.
