One DC Actor Still Believes In the Snyderverse Even After Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck Quit

By Chris Davis 10/21/2025

After the recent post that famous filmmaker Zack Snyder made on his IG, claiming Henry Cavill is Superman, it seems like Joe Manganiello wants to remind everyone he was also Deathstroke. Recently, he re-posted an AI-generated video of him on X as the DC villain, where the post had #SellWBtoNetflix written on it.

This sparked a debate on the platform, with claims that maybe Manganiello wants to return to the big screen as this character that he played in the DCEU before James Gunn and Peter Safran took over. This might also be because he was really passionate about this character, which was, sadly, told he wouldn’t be able to do in the new franchise.

James Gunn Revealed Why Joe Manganiello Won’t Be Deathstroke After the DCEU

While the DCEU is nothing more than a memory now, Joe Manganiello’s dreams of wanting to continue playing Deathstroke are also nothing but dreams now. But due to his passion for the character, he continued to try and make things work until James Gunn had to break the news to him.

Despite his scene in Justice League being heavily cut after the DCEU cancellation, the star still wanted to do more with it, which is why he took the screenplay for a Deathstroke origin film. And despite conversations, the plan went nowhere, even when it was downscaled to a graphic novel idea.

This was when Gunn had to break the bad news to him and tell him to let it go. In an interview with ComicBook, he said:

Jim read it, and wanted it to be a graphic novel series, but no one could assure me that, if it garnered the attention of directors and producers, that I couldn’t be attached. So I had to let it go. James Gunn was just like, ‘Let it go’.

And despite many rumors in the past that talked about his return as Deathstroke, it seems like it isn’t meant to be. Fortunately, the star may have found his calling with Netflix’s One Piece.

How Netflix’s One Piece Will Prove to Be Joe Manganiello’s Next Big Thing

With Netflix’s One Piece breaking the live-action adaptation mold and delivering something that fans loved, the second and third seasons of the show are soon to arrive, starting next year. And one of the biggest names that is associated with it at the moment is none other than Manganeillo, who will be playing the role of Crocodile in the show.

With the creators of the series having set their minds on Manganeillo playing Crocodile, what helps his case is the fact that this villain is one of the first and strongest that Luffy faces on the Grand Line. Thus, with him being a pivotal character for the development of the protagonist, he becomes the focal point of the story, something that will give him ample screen time.

Along with that, what will excite the fans is the star’s connection to the villain on a source level. Along with watching the anime, Manganeillo has also read some of the manga, and has even changed his Twitter banner to Crocodile stabbing Luffy in the original series. Thus, this series may prove to be the next big thing for the star after the DCEU didn’t pan out.
