Meghan Markle reveals an unusual hobby that she shares with sister-in-law Princess Kate Middleton in her new Netflix show.
In the opening scene of With Love, Meghan, which premiered on Tuesday, March 4, the Duchess of Sussex wears a beekeeper’s suit and harvests honey from her personal apiary.
“I’ve got good vibes. Good vibes for good hives,” Meghan tells viewers.
“It’s like also that little reminder to do something that scares you a little bit. I think that’s part of it, but I’m trying to stay in the calm of it. Because it’s beautiful to be this connected,” she adds.
Kate has also publicly shared her love of beekeeping. To celebrate World Bee Day in May 2023, Kensington Palace released an image of the princess wearing beekeeper’s gear while handling bees at her home in Anmer Hall on the Sandringham estate.
The princess even brought a jar of her own honey to a royal engagement at the Natural History Museum in London in June 2021.
“Would you like to try some? This came specially from my beehive. Does it taste like honey from the shops? Does it taste like flowers?” Kate asked children at the event, according to the Daily Mail’s royal editor Rebecca English.
The hobby is also beloved by King Charles III. After visiting the king’s Highgrove estate in June 2024, David Beckham told BBC News he exchanged “beekeeping tips” with the monarch.
Similarly, Charles’ wife, Queen Camilla, also produces honey from hives at her country home in Lacock, Wiltshire, England, People reported.
In 2020, the queen became president of Bees for Development, a charity that aims to promote “sustainable beekeeping to combat poverty, build resilient livelihoods and benefit biodiversity,” according to its website.
In With Love, Meghan, the duchess reveals that she had been involved with the hobby for around a year at the time of filming.
The former actress’ As Ever brand will sell honey as part of its initial lineup when products are released in the spring. The range of products includes: raspberry spread, wildflower honey with honeycomb, flower sprinkles, herbal hibiscus tea, herbal peppermint tea, herbal lemon ginger tea, crepe mix and a shortbread cookie mix with flower sprinkles.
