Jennifer Lawrence has repeatedly proven her excellence as an actress through the versatile characters she has impeccably embodied over the years across numerous different genres. But when it comes to being sincerely acknowledged for her work, the stunner might as well be regarded among the most criminally underrated actresses in the entertainment industry to date.
However, this just might change now, after legendary visionary Martin Scorsese recently had something to say in praise of Lawrence. In fact, to put it lightly, the opinion Scorsese holds of the actress might as well have made her reach Leonardo DiCaprio’s ranks in Hollywood, since the veteran doesn’t have words of commendation for just anyone and everyone in the industry!
Did Martin Scorsese just put Jennifer Lawrence on a similar pedestal to Leonardo DiCaprio?
Martin Scorsese recently debuted in the Cannes Competition with his latest movie, a horror-comedy, on which he serves as one of the producers: Die, My Love. This time around, the ones he has joined forces with are none other than Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson, with this being the former’s first creative collaboration with the legendary director. But that’s not all.
While most Hollywood actors would love to work with Scorsese, the surprising part is that it was actually the director himself who chose the actress for the role. To be more precise, while working on this project, the filmmaker was actually convinced that no one else could pull off the role of Grace in the respective movie better than Lawrence, with whom he was reportedly keen to work.
Talking with Screen Daily, film producer Justine Ciarrocchi confessed the same about Scorsese: “He was adamant no one could pull off Grace like [Lawrence] could.” Thus, he sent the same novel from Ariana Harwicz, which was about a new mother living in the countryside who unravels when she develops postpartum depression, to The Hunger Games star.
Needless to say, that is indeed high praise for Jennifer Lawrence, coming from someone as widely celebrated as Scorsese, who had never even worked with her before. To say the least, judging from his comments, the director may as well have proven that the No Hard Feelings actress might as well have reached Leonardo DiCaprio’s ranks in Hollywood.
As fans already know, DiCaprio is one of those longtime collaborators with Scorsese, and among the very few people in the entertainment industry to earn such tremendous words of acclamation from him. And for Lawrence to score such significant acknowledgment this early in her career without even having worked with the director before? Simply outstanding.
Fans are glad Jennifer Lawrence is finally getting the appreciation she deserves
While receiving so much commendation from Martin Scorsese is one thing, Lawrence has also excelled at other things, just like DiCaprio. She is famous for her hit after hit projects and has been ranked numerous times among the world’s highest-paid actresses, just like The Wolf of Wall Street star has been among the world’s highest-paid actors.
Not to mention, while Lawrence’s movies have grossed over $6 billion worldwide (per Box Office Mojo), DiCaprio’s films have made $7.2 billion globally (via Box Office Mojo). Plus, while the actress earned three nods and one win, the actor earned six nods and one win at the Oscars, among their numerous other BAFTAs and Golden Globes nominations and wins.
That said, it’s only understandable why Scorsese bestowed such high praise on the Red Sparrow actress. Now, even fans are celebrating Lawrence’s being acknowledged this way while expressing their anticipation for the movie. Here’s what they have to say on X:

With all of this being put out there, Martin Scorsese’s bold claim that only Jennifer Lawrence could embody Grace in Die, My Love pretty much catapults her to Leonardo DiCaprio’s Hollywood stratosphere. Since this praise is no small feat, fans might as well keep an eye on Lawrence — after all, she seems to be Scorsese’s new star, shining like DiCaprio!
Die, My Love premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, where it is competing for the Palme d’Or.
