But the unusual top broke just before hopeful Roman Collins' 'danger zone' performance of James Brown's It's A Man's Man's Man's World.
A behind the scenes video shared on Instagram showed wardrobe assistants frantically trying to fix the piece as Katy told the camera 'I need my top to stay on.'

'If it's not fixed this show is gonna get more than it wanted,' she added. Fellow judge Luke Bryan even helped out with a pair of pliers, joking 'I'm going in!'
Luke and third judge Lionel Richie were then heard yelling 'ratings here we come'.
Giving her feedback on the powerful performance Katy later declared to a shocked Ryan Seacrest: 'That song broke my top off! I guess it is a woman's world.'
She promptly sank beneath the desk to try and hide the wardrobe malfunction as she added 'it's a family show'.
'You have the ability to blow the roof off of a place,' Luke told Roman. 'Or a top!' Katy quipped, who by this point was clutching a cushion to her chest to try and hold her ensemble together.
The dramatic episode saw America cast its vote to determine which of the season's 20 remaining contestants should make it into the Top 14.
As the 10 singers with the most piublic votes moved straight through, the other half was placed in the 'danger zone' to compete for the final four spots, as decided by the judges.
Away from Idol Katy has been working on her sixth studio album, with her last LP being Smile in 2020.

She hinted at its imminent release with her outfit at Saturday's 10th Annual Breakthrough Prize ceremony in LA.
The performer carried a small, see-through purse in her hand that contained a lip gloss with 'KP6 Top Secret' printed on the front – subtly hinting at her next album.
Katy made an appearance on Good Morning America on Friday where she reflected on her rise to stardom and the difficult obstacles she had faced.
'It feels like it was yesterday for me,' the performer explained.

'I had, you know, cars repossessed, I had been signed and dropped three times. I was couch surfing. Literally. It's so visceral to me. That's the passion some of these kids have.'
Katy explained that she sees the 'same passion' from contestants as a former judge on American Idol. 'It's been incredible to be on this journey with them.'
In regards to her exit from the competition series, Katy said, 'I feel so connected to America that I want to go out there again and sing and play music and hold their hands and [tour] and bring my daughter and show her and all that stuff.'
