TV personality Julian Quintart has issued a public apology after criticizing a cafe for what he described as excessive packaging, promising not to single out individuals or businesses again.
Julian posted on social media a photo of a cola served in three stacked cups Monday, writing, “Is this triple cup packaging now?” and calling it “overpackaging of overpackaging.” The post also mentioned the cafe’s name.
The cafe operator responded, explaining, “We use flake-type ice, which melts quickly. Because our recipe and ingredients differ from those commonly used in Korea, we use this ice to cool drinks faster. But since it dilutes quickly, we need to use layered cups to maintain quality.”
While acknowledging Julian’s concern for the environment, the owner said the public criticism was harmful, noting the potential impact on the cafe’s reputation.
Facing criticism for being careless, Julian posted an apology later the same day. “I sincerely apologize. As a public figure, I failed to consider how my actions could harm a business’s image and even cause financial damage. That was my clear mistake,” he said.
Julian added that after reading the cafe owner’s direct message, he came to understand the reasoning behind the packaging and admitted he had not considered the efforts involved.
Julian continued, “No intention can justify threatening the livelihood of a small business owner. I have personally apologized and promised to discuss ways to compensate for the mental and financial harm my post may have caused.”
Julian rose to fame through JTBC’s talk show "Non-Summit" and has since been vocal about environmental issues, often sharing related content on social media.
