Jalmari Helander isn’t shy about admitting that his first instinct for Sisu 2 was to go full ’80s mayhem and basically follow the Rambo sequel playbook. But somewhere between the ideas, he decided that trying to mimic that classic action formula was not okay. He said,
I realised that it was the wrong thing to do.
So, he ditched the imitation. As he told Zavvi, he only wanted to make a sequel “if I could truly believe that I could make it better than the first one,” and that meant avoiding anything that felt like a copy-paste job from Sylvester Stallone’s world.
Helander also shared that he once assumed he’d never get to make a sequel anyway. But once the idea struck him, everything clicked. It became the story he felt was worth telling. Suddenly, the sequel wasn’t just about bigger explosions. It was about pushing Aatami further, both emotionally and physically.
The fun ’80s sequel vibe he considered early on sounded good on paper. But he worried that veering too far off would “ruin the legacy of the first one.”
What to Expect from the Plot of Sisu 2?

Anyone who thought Aatami was done turning the bad guys into pulp is in for a reality check. Sisu: Road to Revenge takes the famously indestructible “man who refuses to die” and throws him into an even wilder ride.
The story opens with Aatami returning to what’s left of his old home. His home was completely shattered during the war. He just dismantles the ruins of what’s left piece by piece. He loads them onto a truck and sets out to rebuild the place somewhere safer as a tribute to his family.
Of course, peace and Aatami don’t usually stay in the same room for long. The man behind all the destruction decides the job isn’t finished and comes back with one goal. Naturally, that goes about as well as expected for anyone foolish enough to pick a fight with him.
What follows is basically chaos wrapped in gasoline. There’s a cross-country chase packed with stunts that sound physically illegal, fights that look like they defy nature, and that signature Sisu energy where the audience quietly wonders if Aatami is powered by spite, revenge, or just pure stubbornness.
With a bigger budget and Helander leaning into the madness, the sequel genuinely looks ready to outdo the original in the “did-he-really-just-do-that?” department.
Jalmari Helander is Now Gearing Up to Direct an Official Rambo Prequel

Do you wanna hear a funny twist in all of this? Helander might have sworn off copying Rambo for Sisu 2, but his next project is literally an official Rambo prequel. He’s already prepping the film in Bangkok. The man is gearing up to start shooting at the beginning of 2026. Helander called it “a full circle moment for me as a filmmaker.” He further said (via Zavvi),
It’s unbelievable to be in a position where I’m about to shoot my own Rambo film. It’s great to be trusted to bring an action hero back to the screen.
As for how Rambo would fare against Aatami? Helander didn’t hesitate to tease fans. “Rambo should consider himself lucky that he wasn’t around at the same time as him…” he joked. And honestly, he might be right.
For now, all eyes are on Sisu: Road to Revenge, which storms into theaters on November 21, 2025. You can expect bigger stakes and bigger explosions. Aatami’s not slowing down any time soon.
