How Old Chloë Grace Moretz Was In Kick-Ass 1 & 2

Chloë Grace Moretz is a well-known name now, but she gave one of her most iconic performances at a young age in the Kick-Ass movies. In the series based on the comic series of the same name, Moretz plays Hit-Girl, a young assassin who is far more violent and vulgar than her age would suggest. Young characters are often played by older actors, but with Chloë Grace Moretz that isn't necessarily the case for Kick-Ass and Kick-Ass 2.

Chloë Grace Moretz started acting at a very young age, with the actress playing child roles in films like Heart of the Beholder, The Amityville Horror, and (500) Days of Summer. Moretz became fairly popular from her consistent child roles, but her breakthrough truly came when she was cast in 2010's Kick-Ass. Hit-Girl has become the actress' defining role, with Moretz saying she would return as Hit-Girl in Kick-Ass 3. Moretz is one of the highlights of both Kick-Ass movies, which is a big deal considering how young she was in the movies.

At the time of filming the first Kick-Ass movie, Chloë Grace Moretz was only 12 years old. Moretz was a highly sought-after child actress at this point in her career, with her appearing in movies like Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Let Me In in the same year. Moretz showed incredible dedication to the role, training with martial artists like Jackie Chan and even doing her own stunts in the film.

Moretz reprised her Hit-Girl role only a few years later in 2013's Kick-Ass 2, with the actress only being 15 years old at the time of filming. Moretz acted alongside Kick-Ass 2 actors like Jim Carrey and other big stars, cementing her position as a major player in Hollywood. Although Kick-Ass 3 never happened, Moretz is eager to return to the role as an adult, signaling her love for the role that really kicked off her career.

Why Chloë Grace Moretz's Kick-Ass Age Was So Controversial

Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl prepare for the final battle

Chloë Grace Moretz's role in Kick-Ass and Kick-Ass 2 was unsurprisingly controversial. Kick-Ass is full of violence, profanity, and sex, and considering Moretz's age, this juxtaposition rubbed some viewers the wrong way. Many were upset that Moretz was using such harsh profanity in the film, believing that the dialogue could be damaging for someone so young. The violence was also a huge factor in this, as Hit-Girl slaughters tons of characters throughout the film.

One Kick-Ass line Chloë Grace Moretz said in the action movie specifically incited controversy. A pre-release clip featured Hit-Girl saying "Okay, you c*nts, let's see what you can do now," which was met with a negative response. After the clip's release, the Australian Family Association even directly spoke out against the film, saying that the line was inappropriate. Although the Hit-Girl controversy is mostly over now, it was a big deal back when Kick-Ass first came out.
