But if you’re a professional thief like I am, I was very proud of those guys.” He shared that the film now has to really live up to the real-life heist.

While Clooney is impressed with the theft, French President Emmanuel Macron called it “an attack on our history” (via BBC). Around 60 investigators are working on the case after the heist targeted France’s priceless crown jewels.

$102 Million Louvre Heist: What Do We Know?

According to the police report, the gang that carried out the theft arrived at 09:30 local time during the opening hours. They arrived wth a vehicle-mounted mechanical lift that gave them access to the Gallery of Apollo. The ladder of the mechanical lift led them up to a first-floor window, which they cut through using power tools.

The robbers then threatened the guards to evacuate the premises. They went on to use the power tools to cut through the glass case protecting the jewels. The room reportedly had no CCTV coverage at the time of the heist. The thieves took only four minutes inside the museum and made their escape on their scooters at 09:38.

The following items with historical value were stolen from the museum during the heist:

Natalie Goulet, a member of the French Senate’s finance committee, told the BBC that the localized alarm at the museum was recently broken. Goulet shared that an investigation was underway on whether the alarm was deactivated. It was also reported that the gang tried to set their vehicle outside on fire, but was interrupted by museum guards.

No one was injured in the incident. The French cultural ministry shared that the thieves appeared “experienced” and executed a well-prepared plan.
