The new Harry Potter star, Dominic McLaughlin, has received the blessing of OG Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe. In a recent appearance on Good Morning America, Radcliffe revealed that he reached out to the young actor set to take on the iconic role in the upcoming HBO series. The 36-year-old actor shared,
I wrote to Dominic and sent him a letter, and he sent me a very sweet note back.
He added that he hopes McLaughlin, along with the other young stars of the series, has a wonderful experience working on the show.
Daniel Radcliffe Doesn’t Want to Overshadow the New Harry Potter Cast
Daniel Radcliffe, who portrayed Harry Potter for a full decade across all eight film adaptations, has shared that he has no intention of overshadowing the young actors stepping into the wizarding world for the upcoming HBO reboot.
“I don’t want to be a specter in the life of these children,” he shared on Good Morning America, adding,
I just wanted to write to him to say, ‘I hope you have the best time, and an even better time than I did — I had a great time, but I hope you have an even better time.
Radcliffe also admitted to seeing the young actors taking on these roles makes him emotional, as he offered his best wishes for the new cast starring in the TV series.
I do, I just see these pictures of him and the other kids and I just want to hug them. They just seem so young. I just look at them and say, ‘Oh it’s crazy I was doing that at that age.’
HBO’s new adaptation of the Harry Potter book series is now in production, with Dominic McLaughlin leading the cast as Harry, alongside Arabella Stanton as Hermione and Alastair Stout as Ron.

Dominic McLaughlin has shared that landing the role of Harry Potter in the series adaptation was like a dream come true. When asked about being cast as the Boy Who Lived in the HBO series, he told BBC News,
A bit surreal to be honest, because I was always a huge ‘Harry Potter’ fan when I was younger —And it was like the dream role.
“I’m thrilled to be able to be doing it,” he added. McLaughlin will be only the second actor to portray the character on screen, following Daniel Radcliffe’s decade-long run in the film adaptations.
The 11-year-old actor has appeared in several projects ahead of his major debut in the HBO series, including the 2025 films The Red Admiral and Grow.
