Guillermo del Toro may have a huge fan base, but very few of his followers know about what bothers him. Opening up recently during an event, the Oscar Winner recalled troubling times from the 90s. The first was, of course, his father’s kidnapping, and the next one was his experience with Bob and Harvey Weinstein. However, when pressed to know the worst of them by Deadline, the director of Hellboy went on to choose the latter.
The Weinsteins, hands down. Because on the other thing, you knew what they wanted. The Weinsteins, who the f*ck knew what they wanted?
Toro added while talking to the outlet during the Contenders Film: Los Angeles event, held on November 15.
For those unversed, the director of Pan’s Labyrinth disowned the theatrical cut following creative differences with the producers of the film, Bob and Harvey Weinstein of Miramax and Dimension Films.
During the recent interview, del Toro went on to add that the troubling event with the Weinstein brothers “lasted more than 72 days.” Deadline recently held an inaugural Contenders Hall of Fame Award event at the DGA Theater. This was where the Mexican filmmaker was honored with the Contenders Hall of Fame Award.
Guillermo Del Toro’s Father’s Kidnapping Shocked Him So Much That it Inspired His Movies

Guillermo del Toro is globally celebrated for his classic tales and gothic take in his movies. But one of his most personally felt emotions was recently seen in the Netflix movie Frankenstein. As per Entertainment Weekly, the kidnapping of his father shaped the latest outing by The Shape of Water director. Federico del Toro was
kidnapped in ’98, and when he came back, he didn’t talk about it. And then before he passed, I said, ‘We have to sit down and you gotta tell me what happened.’ That was very important for me to understand the man.
Del Toro shared these words during the Toronto International Film Festival, back in September this year. Shedding light on Frankenstein, del Toro added that his latest entry is about “forgiving someone and forgiving yourself into being.”
What you realize is a grudge takes two prisoners and forgiveness liberates two people. I thought I could make the movie, but then I went, No, thank God it didn’t happen until now.
Oscar Isaac portrays the character of Victor Frankenstein, who brings a monster alive. Frankenstein’s monster is played by Jacob Elordi, who may be the portrayal of a son of the mad scientist. Joining them in this outing are Mia Goth, David Bradley, and others.
