Game of Thrones Actor to Play Detective in New Poker Face Version After Cancellation

The Poker Face creator Rian Johnson has revealed that the comedy-drama will continue despite its cancellation, with Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage set to join the series. The show, which premiered in 2023, ran for two seasons before Peacock canceled it.

According to Deadline, Natasha Lyonne has stepped down from the series after two seasons, and Dinklage will take over the role of Charlie going forward. “We’ve been germinating this next move together since writing the season two finale,” Johnson shared.

“We love our Poker Face, and this is the perfect way to keep it rolling. Give us a beat, and we may just see Charlie Cale again down that open highway,” he continued, teasing plans for the series’ return with a new face in the lead role.

Rian Johnson Shares Plans to Evolve Poker Face into a Franchise

Rian Johnson has also shared new plans for the future of the acclaimed crime comedy-drama. The show follows Charlie Cale, a human lie detector on the run from a casino boss, hitting the road in her ’69 Plymouth Barracuda after getting caught up in a suspicious death.

Johnson shared that he hopes to see Poker Face evolve into a long-running franchise, with a new actor taking on the lead role every two years, a format reminiscent of how his Knives Out film series has continued to reinvent itself on Netflix.

First up for the rotating lead is Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage, who is set to take over as Charlie, the quick-witted sleuth whose unique talent exposes deception wherever she goes. Johnson is reportedly shopping the new version of the series following its cancellation at Peacock.

Natasha Lyonne, who earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance as Charlie Cale, will remain attached to the project as an executive producer.

Poker Face is available to stream on Peacock.
