Whoopi Goldberg is facing backlash for her insensitive comments on the long-running talk show, The View. As Bad Bunny prepares himself to perform at the Super Bowl 2026, not everyone is happy about his accomplishment.
The Department of Homeland Security Secretary, Kristi Noem, revealed that ICE will be present at the event, which we will get into later. Coming back to Goldberg’s comments, co-host Joy Behar suggested on The View that sending ICE agents to the Super Bowl could be racially motivated.
She stated, “Do you think that (Noem) would go if it were Garth Brooks, or Eminem or Taylor Swift? Or any other white person?” Goldberg seemed to be taken aback by the revelation, asking, “She’s going to go to the Super Bowl and round up – how’s she going to know who is who?“
Behar continued that Noem has been given complete freedom from the Supreme Court to round up and question any attendees who have a “Hispanic accent or dark skin.”
This prompted Goldberg to joke that attendees should darken their skin with cocoa butter and speak with a Latin accent during the event, just to throw Noem off the course. In her words,
Here’s the thing. Everybody. Get a little cocoa butter, sit in the sun. And then – and this is probably the only time you can do this – give yourself a Latin accent…And see if she can tell who is who.

Goldberg’s comments were followed by awkward laughter from both the panel and the audience, who then clapped their hands a moment later. Needless to say, the long-time host didn’t see the criticism coming her way.
Critics Are Coming After Whoopi Goldberg for Her Super Bowl Suggestion

After Whoopi Goldberg joked about people darkening their skin and imitating Latinos at Super Bowl LX, she faced a ton of backlash from netizens for her supposedly racist comments.
American journalist and political commentator Megyn Kelly reshared the moment from The View on X, adding, “I hear this is racist.“
I hear this is racist. https://t.co/JNiE8T1d6H
Others also echoed Kelly’s statements, calling Goldberg out for making jokes that promote cultural appropriation. Netizens commented on the hypocrisy of it all, while some demanded the host be fired from the show. Take a look at what the users on X have had to say:
But, Whoopie, I've been told for a decade "cultural appropriation" is wrong.
so black face is ok then if it hides other color people and faking a latin accent isnt wrong if you are confusing an agent? so be racist but only when its helpful. got it
She's literally calling on thousands of people to just wear brownface.
So, now it's ok to do this and not be racist? You can't despise these fakes enough.
Whoopi Goldberg goes full racist and tells people to wear Latino face at the Super Bowl in order to confuse ICE.

Goldberg probably did not mean to hurt any sentiments while making the statement on television, but it did not stop netizens from coming at her from all directions.
Kristi Noem’s Comments on the NFL Booking Bad Bunny for the Halftime Show

Ever since Bad Bunny, aka Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, was announced as the artist headlining the Super Bowl LX halftime show, the country has been divided.
While most are happy with him getting the prestigious opportunity, others are upset that a non-English artist is performing at an event that’s attended mainly by an English-speaking audience. Bad Bunny also sparked outrage for skipping the United States on his last tour, voicing concerns about ICE agents raiding his concerts.
Noem opened up about Super Bowl LX and the responsibility of ICE during the event. While on The Benny Show, she stated, “I have the responsibility for making sure that everybody [who] goes to the Super Bowl has the opportunity to enjoy it and to leave. And that’s what America is about.”
Noem also added that the only people attending the Super Bowl in the first place should be “law-abiding Americans who love this country.” As for what she thinks about Bad Bunny being used as a headliner for supposedly sending a message to Donald Trump, Noem replied,
They suck and we’ll win and God will bless us. We’ll stand and be proud of ourselves at the end of the day, and they won’t be able to sleep at night because they don’t know what they believe and they’re so weak. We’ll fix it.
As for Bad Bunny, he seems indifferent to the criticism. While hosting Saturday Night Live on Saturday, he delivered his monologue, stating that he’s “very happy” for the opportunity, joking, “I think everyone is happy about it. Even Fox News.“

They then played a video of conservative anchors, slicing their comments on the halftime show, to have them say, “Bad Bunny is my favorite musician, and he should be the next president.”
He also had a message for everyone upset about his songs being in Spanish. After delivering a heartfelt message in his native language, he then said in English, “If you didn’t understand what I just said, you have four months to learn.“

While Goldberg faces backlash for his comments, Bad Bunny remains unbothered by the negativity around him. Only time will tell how people react to his performance.
