Fact Check: Shia LaBeouf Is Returning to Transformers Along With Megan Fox?

By Kevin Thomas 10/31/2025

Michael Bay is reportedly returning to direct a brand-new Transformers movie (per Puck News). With this explosive comeback, fans have one burning question: Will Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox also roll out for another round?

While nothing is confirmed, rumors of LaBeouf’s Sam Witwicky and Fox’s Mikaela Banes returning have fans in overdrive. LaBeouf, however, once told Esquire in 2018 that the Transformers films were “irrelevant,” and that remark alone suggests he might keep his distance. His character’s fate doesn’t help either, as The Last Knight implied Sam’s demise through Edmund Burton’s revelation that Vivian Wembley is the last surviving “Witwiccan”.

Fox, on the other hand, might have a smoother route to return. In an interview with Wonderland, she called Bay “a nightmare to work for” and compared him to “Hitler on his sets”. Regardless, it’s not unthinkable that Fox might rejoin Bay’s world of gears and glory. Whether LaBeouf chooses to follow is another story.

Michael Bay Reportedly Set to Helm New Transformers Movie: Details Inside

Michael Bay is reportedly developing a new Transformers movie, marking a thunderous return to the franchise he once made a household name. His five directorial entries reportedly grossed $4.3 billion worldwide, a record few directors can boast. When Transformers: The Last Knight limped to $605 million in 2017, Paramount turned the page, exploring new tones and directors.

Now, Puck News’ Matt Belloni reveals that Bay himself initiated this reunion, seeking out writer Jordan VanDina (The Binge) for the screenplay. Below is a snapshot of the Transformers box office legacy:

Clearly, the magic dimmed after Bay’s exit. His cinematic adrenaline, explosions, grand battles, and chrome symphonies are what made the franchise a global phenomenon. Without him, the engines sputtered.

Bay, too, has struggled to strike gold post-Transformers. His Netflix venture 6 Underground drew attention but was critically dismissed. Ambulance earned solid reviews, yet couldn’t pull crowds. Perhaps both Bay andn Transformers need each other to rediscover their spark.

Ergo, Michael Bay’s return might be the gear that gets Transformers back on the road to glory. But only time will tell whether he brings evolution or simply repetition.

Did Megan Fox Date Shia LaBeouf During Transformers Filming?

Megan Fox and Shia LaBeouf weren’t just the human faces of the Transformers spectacle; their chemistry could have powered an Autobot itself. For years, fans speculated whether their on-screen romance crossed into real life, and both eventually confirmed that sparks did fly.

LaBeouf told Details Magazine in 2011 (via HuffPost) that his connection with Fox on set was real, describing it as something “their own”. Then, in 2018, Fox settled the debate once and for all during her Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen appearance. When asked point-blank, she replied candidly:

I mean, I would confirm that it was romantic. I love him. I have never been really quiet about that. I love him.

Additionally, the actress also confessed her fondness for Michael Bay, telling E! Online:

I’ve always loved Michael. We’ve had our battles in the past but even when I’ve been really outspoken about difficulties we’ve had, I’ve always followed up by saying that I have a particular affinity to him.

He can be very vulnerable, and he’s very likeable and loveable. I’ve always been very vocal about that as well. But, sometimes we clash because we both have very willful, powerful personalities.

The first Transformers grossed $707 million, and its sequel, Revenge of the Fallen, soared even higher with $836 million, proving their on-screen bond was box office gold. So, is the Transformers franchise about to turn back the clock with Bay, Fox, and LaBeouf? While the director’s return is confirmed in spirit, the actors’ comebacks remain mired in speculation.
