Rebecca Gayheart, Eric Dane’s ex-wife, has opened up about navigating the actor’s ALS diagnosis, calling the situation “super complicated.” Dane, known for his roles on Grey’s Anatomy and Euphoria, revealed earlier this year that he had been diagnosed with ALS.
“It’s super complicated for me,” Gayheart shared on the Broad Ideas podcast, admitting she isn’t always sure whether she’s handling things the “wrong way or the right way.” Her priority, she explained, is supporting their daughters and ensuring they have meaningful time with their father.
“I just want to make sure I provide them with the opportunity to spend time with him,” highlighting the effort to maintain a strong, supportive family dynamic during a difficult chapter in their lives.
Eric Dane Credits Rebecca Gayheart as His Biggest Champion Amid ALS Battle
Since revealing his ALS diagnosis earlier this year, Eric Dane has opened up about the crucial support he has received from his ex-wife, Rebecca Gayheart. He revealed that the two remain in touch while also describing her as his “biggest champion.”

“I call Rebecca. I talk to her every day,” the actor shared on Good Morning America, adding,
We have managed to become better friends and better parents, and she is probably my biggest champion and my most stalwart supporter, and I lean on her.
The couple, who married in 2004, share two daughters. After 14 years of marriage, they filed for divorce in 2018. Earlier this year, however, Gayheart filed to dismiss the divorce, hinting at a renewed focus on unity during Dane’s health challenges.
Gayheart also reflected on co-parenting with Dane. “No matter what, he is our family, and he is your father. We show up, and we try to do it with some dignity and some grace and just get through it the best we can,” she shared on the Broad Ideas podcast.
Eric Dane is Set to Return to Euphoria Following the ALS Diagnosis
Eric Dane, who revealed his ALS diagnosis in March 2025, has confirmed that he will return to Euphoria Season 3. Dane portrays Cal Jacobs, the patriarch of the Jacobs family, on the hit HBO series.

“I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of Euphoria next week,” he told People, expressing gratitude for being able to pursue his passion despite his diagnosis.
“I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time,” he continued, as he shared that he is grateful to have his family by his side as he enters the next chapter of his life.
With production reportedly wrapping on Euphoria Season 3, fans can expect the new season to premiere in 2026, though HBO has not yet confirmed an official release date.
Euphoria is available to stream on HBO Max.
