Emma Watson had ‘unsettling feeling’ as she secretly suffered during the final few years of Harry Potter

Emma Watson once confessed she ‘didn’t connect’ with the person she was whilst starring in the Harry Potter franchise.

Between 2001 and 2011, 34-year-old Emma portrayed the beloved muggle-born witch Hermione Granger in the film adaptations of J. K. Rowling’s children’s books.

During her first outing in 2001’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the actress was just ten years old to Daniel Radcliffe’s 11 and Rupert Grint’s 12.

As well as acting in the fantasy projects, the trio were regularly present at press days and made appearances at star-studded premieres at London’s Leicester Square cinema.

In a 2017 interview, the Ballet Shoes actor claimed turning up at these events caused her to feel ‘unsettled’.

“I’d walk down the red carpet and go into the bathroom,” she recounted to Vanity Fair.

“I had on so much makeup and these big, fluffy, full-on dresses. I’d put my hands on the sink and look at myself in the mirror and say, ‘Who is this?’."

“I didn’t connect with the person who was looking back at me, and that was a very unsettling feeling,” she continued.

“I’ve often thought, ‘I’m so wrong for this job because I’m too serious’.”

Elsewhere, the star has previously revealed what Harry Potter scene was the worst to film.

Speaking during the Return To Hogwarts special in 2022, Emma admitted that kissing Rupert has been an extremely uncomfortable experience.

“Obviously us kissing was the most horrifying thing either of us have ever had to go through,” she giggled.

She added that it 'felt wrong on every level', and that they just 'kept laughing.’

Giving further insight into the moment, Daniel added: "I did not make this better, because I’ve been told significantly that I was just being an absolute d**k about this and was like, 'I’m gonna come on set and watch you guys kiss.

"I’m sorry about that, guys.”

When Emma’s time as one-third of the Golden Trio came to an end, she continued to work within Hollywood.

She has since starred in roles such as Nicolette ‘Nicki’ Moore in The Bling Ring and Belle in the Disney live adaptation of Beauty and the Beast.

Her latest film role came in 2019 when she portrayed Margaret ‘Meg’ March in Greta Gerwig’s Little Women before she decided to take a step back from acting.

Last year, the Paris-born star enrolled on a Creative Writing Masters degree at Oxford University.

She also possesses a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature from Brown University.
