Dua Lipa surprises fans with ‘solid picks’ as she reveals her 19 favorite books

The Grammy-winning singer and founder of Service95, an editorial platform that includes a global book club, offered up her current personal favorites this week. The list features a mix of acclaimed literary fiction, modern classics, and standout memoirs.

Included are Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Noughts & Crosses by Malorie Blackman, The Guest by Emma Cline, and Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders. Also making the cut are There There by Tommy Orange and Drive Your Plow Over The Bones of The Dead by Olga Tokarczuk, along with On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong and Trust by Hernan Diaz.

Fans were quick to respond. One commented, “She has some solid picks. I’m especially fond of Tommy Orange and his novels.” Another shared, “she’s one of the few celebrities with a book club who I feel genuinely reads her recommendations and doesn’t just pick a trending book (Kaia Gerber).”

Someone replied, saying, “Fair, I read Obama’s list and sometimes I wonder if he really does it himself.”

Lipa’s list also includes Just Kids by Patti Smith, Pachinko by Min Jin Lee, Swimming in the Dark by Tomasz Jedrowski, and Grief Is the Thing with Feathers by Max Porter.

“I mean this is quite a woke trendy list but I believe she reads them (signed, someone else who reads ‘woke, trendy’ books),” another fan wrote.

Also featured are A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini, Say Nothing by Patrick Radden Keefe, and The Bee Sting by Paul Murray.

Additionally, she threw in 100 Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez, Bad Habit by Alana S. Portero, Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner, and Still Born by Guadalupe Nettel.

“As someone who is a fan of her music and also a fan of the art and skill of journalistic interviewing, my mind is still blown by the fact that Dua Lipa of all people turned out to be such a good interviewer through her book club.”

“It’s such a wonderfully odd connection, I love it,” one commenter said.

Another fan summed up what many were thinking: “I’m amazed how much she gets done.”

“So much reading, prep, a full career as a musician writing her own hits, a boyfriend, travels, tours, etc.”

“Again, where does she find the time to be hot, an avid reader, a fantastic interviewer, and improve her dancing skills. As well as have impeccable taste in fashion/stylists,” one user joked.
