Cameron Mathison remembers his time on Dancing With The Stars fondly, but what some people don't know is that he almost backed out because of the partner he was paired with. This is nothing against Edyta Śliwińska, who he ended up dancing with, but he and his wife Vanessa were going through a hard time, and him training every day with a beautiful dancer wasn't helping.
Although their marriage survived Cameron's stint on reality TV, Cameron and Vanessa have now decided to part ways. They announced their separation on July 31st but reassured fans that they wanted to stay friends.
Cameron Mathison Asked Not To Be Paired With Edyta Śliwińska
Cameron Mathison recently shared a confession about his time on Dancing With The Stars, and it had to do with his marriage. Cameron and his wife, Vanessa Arevalo, recently announced that they are getting divorced, and it turns out that, when he joined DWTS back in 2007, the couple was already having problems.
That’s why, when he was asked to join the show and found out that he was going to be paired with Edyta Śliwińska, he almost backed out.
"I watched the show, so I knew Edyta. She’s a very beautiful woman, and I don't even know if Edyta knows this, I actually called Dina Katz, who's my dear friend now, who at the time was casting director, I called her and I said, ‘Listen, I'm so happy that you've offered me the show. I can't wait. I'm in. Just do me a favor. Put me with anybody but Edyta.’”
The actor is now very good friends with Edyta, and they became very close while doing the show, but at the time, he didn’t want to be paired with her as he didn’t want to make his wife jealous.
“My wife and I, we were going through a little bit of a challenge at that time, and Edyta didn't wear a lot of clothes,” he explained in a recent episode of the podcast Sex, Lies, and Spray Tans.
“Vanessa was a trooper,” he acknowledged. “We'd recently gone through a bunch of stuff, and it wasn't great timing and I was off in LA spending time with this beautiful woman, dressed up, against her, sweating with her 5 hours a day rehearsing, and then doing all the press and touring stuff together, and it was really hard.”
Cameron And Vanessa's Upcoming Divorce
Cameron Mathison and Vanessa Arevalo announced they were getting divorced in a joint statement on Instagram. The couple have apparently parted ways amicably after over two decades together and remain good friends, always putting their children first.
"After 22 years of marriage, we have made the difficult decision to part ways," the statement read. "We enter this new chapter with deep love, kindness, and respect for each other. We hold gratitude in our hearts for the wonderful years we shared together."
"Our children have been and will continue to be our highest priority, and we will forever share in our devotion and love for them. We remain friends, and both wish the best for one another. We sincerely appreciate your respect for our family’s privacy during this transition."
As they get ready for the next chapter of their lives, it's good to know they will always put their family first.
