Chloë Grace Moretz publicly came out as gay in a post on social media which has since gone viral. The announcement was made while addressing her thoughts on the 2024 presidential election.
Moretz, whose roles include Kick-Ass and Carrie, shared an Instagram post with an image of a New York voting sticker that reads, "I voted early 2024." Referring to herself as a "gay woman, she then shared how she put in her vote for Kamala Harris, pointing to the "legal protections" that the current VP would bring to the LGBTQ+ community. Moretz went on to encourage others to vote early, suggesting they could get started by visiting the website IWillVote.com.
"I voted early and I voted for Kamala Harris," Moretz wrote in the caption of her post. "There is so much on the line this election. I believe the government has no right over my body as a woman, and that the decisions over my body should come ONLY from myself and my doctor. Kamala Harris will protect that for us. I believe in the need for legal protections that protects the LGBTQ+ community as a gay woman. We need protections in this country and to have access to the care we need and deserve."
Moretz has not publicly commented on her sexual orientation in the past, though there has been speculation that she's been in a relationship with model Kate Harrison since 2018. A recent Instagram post by Moretz included images of the pair attending the wedding of two friends, and another post shared by Harrison from the occasion included a look at their wedding place card with their names printed together.
After starring in two Kick-Ass films, Moretz would go on to lead an adaptation of Stephen King's Carrie as the titular character. She'd more recently voice the iconic character Wednesday Addams in a pair of animated Addams FAmily movies, and she also played the titular role for the animated film Nimona. On the small screen, Moretz starred in the sci-fi series The Peripheral. It was reported this year that she's also been cast for a role alongside Lupita Nyong'o for the upcoming MMA drama Strawweight.
The Kick-Ass franchise is getting rebooted, though details about the next film in the franchise are still largely unclear. It's not expected that Moretz will be a part of the project, though she has previously hinted that she'd be up for doing another film that would see her return as Hit-Girl.
Will a Hit-Girl Return Ever Happen?
"I mean, I think I would love to do a Kick-Ass 3. I think it'd be really fun to see where Hit-Girl goes and what she's like as an adult," Moretz said on The Tonight Show in 2021. "But I think it would have to be kind of perfect. You know, I feel like it would need to be, across the board [perfect] — Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Chris Mintz-Plasse and the whole crew back together."
