Angelina Jolie has been in the industry for several years now, and in that time, she has made a splash in a variety of genres. The daughter of actor Jon Voight, she got her start as a child performer in the movie Lookin' to Get Out in 1982. However, she became more recognized when she acted in Hackers in 1995. She was in the comedy Playing by Heart in 1998 before switching back to drama the next year with Girl, Interrupted. In 2005, she played opposite Brad Pitt in the spy comedy Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
Jolie's career has been slower in recent years, but her work has slanted more towards the dramatic side. In 2021, she made her MCU debut in Eternals, then took a three-year acting hiatus. She returned to the screen for the biopic Maria last year, which earned her critical acclaim, and she was considered to be snubbed for a Best Actress nomination at the Academy Awards. She also wrote and directed the war drama Without Blood last year. Now, Jolie will return to acting and transition back into comedy with her newest movie.
Angelina Jolie Takes On Anxious People
The Movie Is Based On A Book
Jolie is officially starring in a movie adaptation of Anxious People. The story started as a comedy mystery novel by Fredrik Backman. The novel was published in Swedish in 2019 and the English translation was put out two years later in 2021. The book is about a bank robber who, after a failed robbery, ends up taking a group of people hostage in an apartment building. Anxious People was once adapted into a Netflix miniseries, which had six episodes.
Per Deadline, Jolie will now star in the Anxious People movie. The film will be directed by Marc Foster and written by David Magee. It will be handled by Black Bear and Hope Studios, with producers including Fredrik Wikström Nicastro, Renée Wolfe, Forster, and Neda Backman.
What This Means For Anxious People
Backman Has Had A Similar Adaptation Before
Backman is a notable author who made the bestseller list for A Man Called Ove. That novel's adaptation history is similar to that of Anxious People, as it got a Swedish version before being adapted into the Tom Hanks-led Hollywood movie A Man Called Otto. This latter version did well at the box office, making $113.3 million worldwide. This bodes well for Anxious People, as it is also an English-language version of a Backman novel with a Hollywood A-lister in the lead.
