WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS ahead for the Alien: Earth season 1 finale.

The ending of Alien: Earth season 1 has major implications for a second season, which is unconfirmed to be renewed by Hulu and Disney at the time of writing.

Alien: Earth is one of the most critically acclaimed new series of the year, earning a Rotten Tomatoes score of 95%. Some have even called it a sci-fi masterpiece.

Emmy-winning creator Noah Hawley (Fargo, Legion) has discussed plans to expand Alien: Earth into a multi-season project. All that's missing at this point is the official green light.

Screen Rant has an exclusive update about Alien: Earth season 2 from Noah Hawley following the release of the season 1 finale.

Yeah, certainly. We’re talking about the future of the show, and FX does their homework. They really make sure that they understand what the viewership numbers are. And on some level, it’s where you end more than where you started that tells you what the appetite for a season 2 is. So, we’ve got our last episode next week, and I’ve been doing my part creatively and really thinking about where I would take the show going forward. Certainly, I don’t want the show to be off the air for any longer than it absolutely has to be. So, there’s some urgency there to get us going as quickly as possible. But ultimately, this is a Disney decision, so I’m excited to see what they do. There’s so many great hard rock songs left to play.

The events of the Alien: Earth season 1 finale leave several story and character developments unresolved, some with cliffhanger endings, which strongly suggests that season 2 is expected to go into production at some point.

Hawley expressed his intentions to make Alien: Earth a multi-season venture before the series even premiered. Based on his track record of making celebrated FX/Hulu series like Fargo, which ran for five seasons, and Legion, which consists of three seasons, there's an excellent chance of Alien: Earth getting renewed.

Hawley expressed his vision for Alien: Earth back in July 2025. "Season 1 is the proof of concept. And if it works commercially, then season 2 is about building a model upon which we can envision making a season 3, 4, 5."

He continues, "[Alien: Earth is] designed to be a recurring series. I don’t know how many seasons that would be. I believe that endings are what give a story meaning, so I have a sense of where I’m going with it."

Hawley expressed similar sentiments in an August 2025 interview with Evolution of Horror:

"I mean, I think that I have a destination in mind story-wise, which allows me to know what the story is I'm telling, what it means. And I don't know how long it takes to get there, but I do have a sense of where we go in success. And you know, the question becomes: how streamlined can we make the process so that you're not waiting for three, or four, or five years for more?”

Alien: Earth Season 2 Is Not Confirmed

Despite these strong intentions on Hawley's end, nothing happens without the official greenlight from Disney and Hulu, which is still unconfirmed at the time of writing. It's clear, however, that Hawley has plans for multiple seasons. Based on his relationship and past success with Disney/FX/Hulu, and season 1's critical acclaim, Alien: Earth season 2 feels like a no-brainer.

It's not all that concerning that Alien: Earth season 2 wasn't announced ahead of the finale, which has been the case for several of the year's most popular and well-reviewed series, like Dexter: Resurrection. One factor in a potential delayed announcement of Alien: Earth season 2 could be the viral outrage over Disney pulling Jimmy Kimmel Live! from ABC that occurred days before the Alien: Earth season 1 finale was released.

Judging by what happens in the Alien: Earth season 1 finale alone, it would be an incredibly disappointing and unsatisfying way to end the series. Considering all the hype around Alien: Earth from viewers, critics, and Hawley himself, it would be ridiculous if Alien: Earth did not run for at least one more season on FX and Hulu.

Alien: Earth Season 2's Cast

The majority of Alien: Earth's cast are expected to return in the anticipated second season, most notably series lead Sydney Chandler, who plays Wendy.

Other characters with main roles who are expected to return include Alex Lawther, who plays Joe; Samuel Blenkin, who plays Boy Kavalier; Babou Ceesay, who plays Morrow; Timothy Olyphant, who plays Kirsh; Essie Davis, who plays Dame Sylvia; David Rysdahl, who plays Arthur; Sandra Yi Sencindiver, who plays Yutani; and Adrian Edmondson, who plays Atom Eins.

All the Lost Boys, or hybrids (Lily Newmark's Nibs, Erana James' Curly/Jane, Adarsh Gourav's Slightly, and Jonathan Ajayi's Smee) are also expected to return, although Kit Young's Tootles / Isaac may be damaged beyond repair. Moe Bar-El's Rashidi's return may be up in the air, as he was last seen getting assaulted by Jane.

Diêm Camille's Siberian, who was killed by the plant-like alien in the finale, is not expected to return. The actors who played the characters aboard the Maginot, who were all killed, are also not expected to return. Florence Bensberg, who plays Marcy, could return in the form of archival video footage.

Alien: Earth Season 2's Potential Story

Alien: Earth season 1 ends with Wendy in control of Neverland after seizing power from Boy Kavalier. The remaining hybrids and Joe have the upper hand over Boy K, Dame Sylvia, Atom Eins, Kirsh, and Morrow. Yutani's reinforcements are approaching Neverland in the final moments of the finale, which may shift the scales of power once again.

Most, if not all, of the hybrids and alien species, including Wendy's pet Xenomorph, should continue to be integral parts of Alien: Earth season 2. Considering how much of a fan-favorite Morrow became, he has a very good chance of returning and potentially escaping. Boy Kavalier and his Prodigy personnel remain the most vulnerable characters, although Wendy doesn't appear to have any immediate plans to kill them.

Alien: Earth season 2 will have to quickly define what it is that Wendy wants with this newfound power, if it lasts. Considering how much Boy K calls himself a genius, he must have some type of emergency plan in place in case the hybrids revolt against him, which is exactly what happened. Atom may also have an increased role after he is revealed to be a synthetic father figure to Boy K, who killed his alcoholic dad when he was 6.

When it comes to a Hawley show, there's no way to know for sure what could happen between seasons. If Wendy retains her power, she will likely have to negotiate with, or fight off, Yutani in Boy K's place. It doesn't seem like there's a road back to co-existing with Boy K on Neverland anymore. Wendy may just try to plan an escape for the Lost Boys somewhere, although given the title Alien: Earth, it's unlikely that the series will take off into outer space like its celebrated movie franchise.
