The original Christy Martin script was incredible. Life changing. I was attached to play Cherry. Everyone had experience with the core material. Most of us were actually gay. It’s part of why I stayed in acting. Losing roles happens all the time.
For her PR to talk about it flopping and saying SS did it for the ‘people’. None of ‘the people’ want to see someone who hates them, parading around pretending to be us. You’re a cretin and you ruined the film. Period. Christy deserved better.
These sentiments stem from the recent controversy surrounding Sweeney for being a racist, after her recent advertisement campaign allegedly implied white supremacy. And with her alleged feud with Euphoria co-star Zendaya on similar political topics, it seems like Hollywood is turning its back on the actress.

On the coattails of the recent American Eagle advertisement campaign debacle that she had to go through, Sydney Sweeney now finds that same problem being pulled into Christy. But even taking all the noise away from the controversy, the fact remains that her performance. Although amazing, it couldn’t save the film by itself.
With the recent box office numbers surrounding Christy, it’s clear that a setback has been suffered by the actress. And looking at her past few projects and their performances, it seems like this trend will hurt her career, at least, for the time being.
But if this box-office trend continues to go on for her next film projects, then she might see herself being solely relegated to the silver screen, considering her breakthrough role was in the form of Cassie Howard in Euphoria. At the end, it only takes one good project and a small streak of successes for a star to rebuild themselves in the industry.
Christy Being a Flop Proves No One Takes Sydney Sweeney Seriously
The biggest indicator of Sweeney not being taken seriously is Christy itself, where, despite portraying the tragic tale of Christy Martin’s life and her illustrious career, she couldn’t transition from the ‘S*x Symbol’ image. This, when combined with the box office numbers from her last 5 films, the studios may also not take her seriously either.
Therefore, if she wants this perception to change, Sweeney will have to step up her game and give something to the industry that sticks.
