Scarlett Johansson has been in a wide range of films and has dabbled in almost every other film genre. However, one film that she had a hard time filming was Michael Bay’s 2005 critical and commercial failure, The Island.
The actress, who just turned 41, coincidentally turned 20 while filming the film (via IGN). However, her 20th birthday wasn’t as splendid as one would imagine, since shooting the film took all of her energy sometimes. In an interview, the actress once recalled (via IMDb):
I came home and I thought I was going to die. I was in agony. I had muscles that had atrophied. I couldn’t run any longer and it was only the first day. But actually, Ewan was in the same boat. He had black and blue marks all over him. So it wasn’t so bad since someone else was in agony.
In another interview, the actress recalled how she almost lost an eye while shooting for the film and had a permanently blue knee (via Black Film). Despite the pain, the actress did recall she had fun playing the character and filming alongside Ewan McGregor.
How to Watch Scarlett Johansson’s The Island in the United States?

While Scarlett Johansson’s The Island may not have been as successful when it was released, it has sort of assumed an underrated must-watch sci-fi film place today. Unfortunately, it is not available for streaming on any streaming platform in the United States.
But for fans who want to see the film, they can rent it on Amazon Prime Video for $3.79 or Apple TV for $3.99. Moreover, you can also purchase the Blu-ray version or DVD online or from a local store, and the prices usually range from $10 to $15 based on different websites.
Directed by Michael Bay, the film tells the story of Ewan McGregor’s Lincoln Six Echo, who lives in a highly structured world. He then makes an escape along with Johansson’s Jordan Two Delta, trying to expose the illegal facility and seek help. Made against a budget of $126 million, it grossed just about $162 million worldwide (via Box Office Mojo).
