Who Inherited Chadwick Boseman’s $4 Million Net Worth After Death: His Relationship With Taylor Simone Ledward Detailed

By Chris Hernandez 11/21/2025

Chadwick Boseman left this world disappointingly early, at only 43, after his battle with stage IV colon cancer, and his wife, Taylor Simone Ledward, was right by his side in his final days. And even though he died without a will, the Black Panther star’s net worth and estate were inherited by none other than his wife and family themselves.

While numerous sources (including La Grasso Law Offices and PEOPLE) suggested the actor to have been worth around $12 million, Celebrity Net Worth estimated his net worth at $4 million at the time of his death. This was accumulated through numerous avenues, including his acting gigs, endorsements, and reported investments.

As per RadarOnline.com, Boseman’s estate pulled in over $230,000 in residuals since his demise. Following his death, his wife reportedly petitioned a Los Angeles court to handle his estate. Per the details, Ledward asked to be reimbursed around $47,000 for numerous costs.

Per the outlet, this included funeral costs, including $9,500 for the venue, $10,000 for the funeral service, and $1,275 for the flowers; reimbursements for a $7,495 expense for a mausoleum crypt at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Anderson, South Carolina; and an additional $22,000, which she had spent to buy mausoleum crypts for Boseman’s parents Leroy and Carolyn to be laid next to him.

The filed documents reportedly revealed the total inventoried value of Boseman’s estate to be $3,881,758.31, which includes numerous residual checks that had come in since March 2021. Plus, Ledward said that the estate was paid $187,000 in March 2021 in residuals, three more payments in 2021 totaling $14,000, and a last reported check in March 2022 for $2,453.

The filing also reportedly stated,

No other assets have come into the hands of [Ledward]. All assets have been inventoried, and no additional assets have been received, although [Ledward] continues to receive and deposit residual payments into the estate and/or corporate account.

At the time, Ledward herself explained that there was no real property of the estate and no real estate tax was due, as well as that all California federal income taxes had been paid, and “there are no tax amounts currently owing from the Decedent and/or his estate.” While the court documents revealed that the estate did receive a tax bill associated with Boseman’s company, with the amount owed being $51,000, it was reported that his estate planned to fight the bill.

Following all of this, in June 2022, almost 2 years after Chadwick Boseman’s death, his estate was valued at $2.5 million on hand with $157,000 in cash. Per RadarOnline.com, another $900,000 was held as a bond in the probate case, and after a couple of bills were paid, the amount dwindled down to approximately $2.3 million.

This amount, per the filing, was asked by Ledward to be distributed evenly between her and Boseman’s parents, with her holding 50% of the estate and the remaining 50% being held by Leroy and Carolyn Boseman. Since then, there have been no reports so far of inheritance-related conflict between Boseman’s widow and his parents, or among any of his surviving relatives.

A Closer Look at Chadwick Bosemanʼs Love Life With Taylor Simone Ledward

While Taylor Simone Ledward was the woman who stole Chadwick Boseman’s heart and took care of him till the time of his devastatingly early demise on August 28, 2020, many don’t know about their sweet love story, just like they didn’t know about his constantly deteriorating health as he battled with colon cancer. Thus, here’s a closer look at the same.

Although they kept their relationship off social media, Boseman and Ledward were first spotted together at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in 2015 (via Oprah Daily). This was followed by a June 2017 appearance outside the Jimmy Kimmel Live! studio, where the Black Panther star graced his presence as a guest.

A year later, the two attended a Black Panther afterparty in New York together in 2018, and also sat courtside together at the NBA All-Star game later that month. Plus, in 2018, Ledward’s grandmother also chose to touch down on their bond, reportedly confirming their relationship. According to In Touch Weekly, she said about the pair,

They respect each other. She’s very happy, and he is, too.

Then, in 2019, the couple decided to make their official debut in the public eye, walking the red carpet together at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, when Boseman was nominated for Black Panther. At the NAACP Image Awards later that year, as well, where he won Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture for his performance in Black Panther, the lovebirds were present together.

Before heading on to the stage to accept his award at that event, Boseman kissed his then-girlfriend, making the moment even more heartwarming for his fans. In his acceptance speech, as well, he thanked Ledward for her support, saying,

You know what they say. Black people always thank God when they win, and I’m not going to let you down. Thank you, God, for not just winning. Thank you, God, for the trials and tribulations that you allow us to go through so we can appreciate these moments. So we can appreciate the joy that comes from winning. Simone, you’re with me every day. I have to acknowledge you right now. Love you.

In response, Ledward reciprocated the message as she mouthed “I love you” to him and blew a kiss his way. Not to mention, that year truly marked a major milestone in their relationship, as the actor reportedly popped the question to her and the two got engaged, as reported by Page Six. Their final appearance together was notably at the 2020 NBA All-Star Game in Chicago in February (via PEOPLE).

Further reports from The Independent revealed that Boseman had tied the knot with Ledward quietly in the final months of his life. Just like that, throughout the years since the beginning of their relationship, she reportedly continued to stick to Boseman’s side, not just to support him but also to make sure that he was taking care of himself.
