Kate Winslet’s latest Jimmy Kimmel Live appearance came with a story that no one expected! Winslet was on the show to promote her upcoming movie Goodbye June, and shared a story about her wearing an accidental see-through lace outfit before meeting King Charles.

I sort of hadn’t realized that we were really going to meet him, and I forgot about the fact that I really was wearing a kind of transparent lace outfit. And thank God I’d worn a coat, because as he’s making his way towards me, I’m like: n*pples, n*pples, n*pples.

She recalled being 20 during the premiere of her film Sense and Sensibility, where she found herself in an outfit that she absolutely hadn’t worn if she knew she’d be meeting a member of the royal family. So, let’s look at how Winslet got herself out of the situation and why it was a moment of panic in the first place!

Kate Winslet’s Quick Fix Prevented a Wardrobe Fail Before King Charles

On the show, Kate Winslet reenacted her meltdown, but her crisis lasted only seconds, thanks to one simple solution: a coat! Someone around her reminded the actress that a coat was all she needed, so Winslet buttoned up and hid the transparent lace. So, she walked forward and met King Charles, and turned a moment of disaster into a graceful meeting.

Over the years, she grew familiar with him, and today she’s the ambassador for The King’s Foundation. Now they work side by side for philanthropic causes, and her awkward memory with the King is now a meaningful and professional partnership.

Is There a Dress Code Required For Meeting the Royal Family?

After Kate Winslet’s wardrobe scare, some might be tempted to ask: What’s the big deal? Is there really a dress code for meeting the royal family? And the answer is yes! The rules are more strict than some of us realise (via The Independent).

From wearing white ties and long evening gowns for banquet events to black ties for those who are more familiar, the royals have strange rules. There’s also special dress codes for garden parties, and everything matters, from your footwear to your accessories.

Most importantly, length and modesty come into play, and at events like the Royal Ascot, women are required to wear dresses that fall below the knee, and their shoulders should be covered too. So yes, Kate Winslet’s lace dress would’ve broken all the rules in one go!

But what are your thoughts on these dress codes, and do you think people should really take them seriously?
