What Is Henry Cavill’s Greatest Warhammer Reget: “We Call It Our Grey Pile of Shame”

By Kevin Thomas 11/18/2025

While it may not be official, for the fandom of the Warhammer 40,000 multimedia franchise, actor Henry Cavill will always be its ambassador. And yet, despite single-handedly bringing the hobby to the mainstream, the star himself has a collection of miniatures he still hasn’t painted yet. Talking about this on an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, he said:

Within the confines of the hobby, we call it our Grey Pile of Shame.

When Jimmy Kimmel asked him about the hobby of painting miniatures and how many he had painted thus far, Cavill embarrassedly admitted to the fans that he hadn’t painted a lot of his Custodes army. And since he is always busy with many other hobbies and passions, fans can’t stay mad at him for long.

Henry Cavill Likes to Geek Out on More Than Just Warhammer

While he may be known across the globe for his love of the Warhammer 40,000 franchise, the star has also been seen multiple times talking about the rest of his hobbies that are closely tied to the geek culture. The biggest one of them is none other than The Witcher, which he has talked about in the past as being a huge fan of the video games and books by author Andrzej Sapkowski.

And speaking of gaming, the star is also an avid gamer in his free time, which is why he built a gaming PC in the past during the COVID-19 pandemic. In an interview with British GQ, the star opened up about his childhood upbringing, where he and his brothers would indulge in playing these games all the time with titles like Delta Force, Half-Life, and Total War: Warhammer II.

In fact, when he was being called by Zack Snyder himself to tell him that he got the role of Superman in the DCEU, he kept ignoring it because he was playing World of Warcraft, the popular online MMO video game.

And most recently, the star revealed that he was blessed to join the cast of the currently developing Highlander reboot film at Amazon Studios, along with director Chad Stahelski. Therefore, even if he has a Grey Pile of Shame, fans will overlook it due to his sheer love and passion for all his hobbies.

Why Amazon’s Warhammer 40K Taking a Long Time to Develop Is Good

It’s clearly visible that the wait for any substantial updates to the Warhammer 40,000 cinematic universe is painful for a lot of the fandom. But this long stretch may also prove to be a blessing in disguise, which stems from the fact that Games Workshop is extremely protective of its IPs, especially a moneymaker like 40K.

Since this is a collaboration between Games Workshop and Amazon, the company is making sure that the production does right by the franchise, which is also the reason why Cavill was brought on board as an executive producer. This indicates that the proper execution and adaptation of the IP is the company’s top priority.

And since this is a multi-million dollar deal, all things must come to a mutual and favorable conclusion before the production and filming actually begin, meaning a lot of time spent on contracts and agreements. Therefore, despite the wait being excruciating, it seems like it will be worth it in the end.
