Not David Corenswet, Another DC Star Gave Difficult Time to James Gunn During Improvised Superman Scene

Along with the fans that watched Superman, actor David Corenswet too broke down laughing when he heard his co-star Alan Tudyk, who played 4, say the dialogue about his name being changed to Gary. While this was supposed to be a slightly emotional moment, during filming, it cracked up the lead actor.

In fact, this was such an unexpected, yet equally funny, improvisation that both Corenswet and James Gunn decided it was going to make the final cut for the DCU. Unlike Tudyk giving the filmmaker some light-hearted trouble, the lead actor had to struggle at first to go through his part, particularly with his costume.

David Corenswet Had to Suffer While Wearing the Superman Suit

While most people may do just about anything to dress the part of a superhero, most may not realise just how difficult, and sometimes even scary, the experience can be. And just like many stars had problems with their superhero suits, so did David Corenswet with his in Superman.

In an interview with People about the then-upcoming film, the star recalled his first experience donning the suit of the Man of Steel. Although it was a surreal moment, he soon realised that since it was fitted extremely snugly to his frame, it felt constricting. He said:

You hear actors who play superheroes talking about squeezing into the suits. I got kind of claustrophobic in the suit the first time just being constricted in all those places at the same time.

But soon after, the star grew accustomed to the tight fit, thanks to denying the use of a muscle suit underneath, which provided more breathable room. And the rest is history, as his performance won over the audience.

The Blend of Comedy and Emotions Is Why James Gunn’s DCU Is Succeeding

While on one side, we have the campy humor that the MCU has now become infamous for in recent years, and on the other side, we have the DCU, which is being enjoyed by the audience. The main difference here is the comedic timing and the overall theme of the franchise under James Gunn’s vision.

When looking at Superman, we see the character in the same way it’s been shown throughout the Golden Age of comics, which was the exact idea that Gunn had in mind. On the other hand, looking at Peacemaker, we still see visceral and mature themes, but they, too, are extremely well-balanced, to the point where the comedy doesn’t bleed into impactful emotional moments.

Thus, with a more enjoyment-focused, yet equally hard-hitting approach that Gunn takes towards the franchise, the DCU is succeeding right now.
