The Office star Rainn Wilson, who portrayed the role of Dwight Schrute across 9 seasons of the hit sitcom, just defended Justin Baldoni in his lawsuit against Blake Lively.
The Lively-Baldoni lawsuit has been going on for a while, and it started following the events of the It Ends With Us shoot. However, the legal defense team of Justin Baldoni has revealed messages between Baldoni and Rainn Wilson as evidence. Per Entertainment Weekly, Wilson wrote to Justin Baldoni:
Oh my God. I can’t believe it. You were set up and ambushed and personally attacked. I’m stunned. I completely relate to you being stunned, like a deer in the headlights.
The text message was in response to Justin Baldoni’s update about the whole situation when he was talking about how Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds called him, and Reynolds scolded him “like a five-year-old [kid]”.
Justin Baldoni Wasn’t Thinking Clearly During Apologizing
As the chats continued, Justin Baldoni further detailed the phone call wherein he apologized to both Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds. Speaking about the incident, Baldoni wrote that he wasn’t thinking clearly while apologizing at all.
The [words] creepy and abuse were used in reference to me in my behavior I was then given the words of what to say, and had to apologize which I was unable to do because my brain was trying to comprehend what was happening.
He continued,
I was in shock and basically went into feeling like I was a seven-year-old again when I got home last night.
Naturally, the thing has blown to quite huge proportions. It all started with Blake Lively filing a complaint with the California Civil Rights Department in December 2024, accusing Baldoni of s*xual harassment on the set of It Ends With Us.
After filing a lawsuit in the New York federal court, she was met with a counterlawsuit from Baldoni claiming civil extortion, defamation, breach of contract, and invasion of privacy. His countersuit was dismissed, but Justin Baldoni has denied the allegations put forth by Blake Lively.
How Long Have Rainn Wilson and Justin Baldoni Been Friends?
Rainn Wilson and Justin Baldoni’s friendship dates back almost a decade, when they first appeared together on Wilson’s Baháʼí Blogcast podcast in July 2016 for a conversation about their shared Baháʼí Faith.
The two actors later appeared together in 2017 at the SXSW panel. They continued to appear together year after year with Rainn Wilson’s YouTube show and Baldoni’s podcast, until their final appearance together in a 2024 episode of Wilson’s podcast, Soul Boom.
So, with almost a decade of knowing each other, it does make sense that Wilson would know about Baldoni’s life updates and how the legal battle is unfolding.
