Fact Check: Is The Dark Knight Star Michael Caine Pro-A.I.?

By John Brown 11/12/2025

In a world where people are scared of new technology taking over their jobs and big names from Hollywood warning against Artificial Intelligence usage, one of the greatest actors in the history of the film industry, Sir Michael Caine, has chosen to go the other way. The Hannah and Her Sisters actor recently signed a deal with the AI audio company ElevenLabs.

The shocking move in question will allow the company based in New York to recreate the AI versions of his voice. Talking to The Guardian, Caine stated

For years, I’ve lent my voice to stories that moved people – tales of courage, of wit, of the human spirit. Now, I’m helping others find theirs. With ElevenLabs, we can preserve and share voices – not just mine, but anyone’s.

What’s more shocking is that the Dark Knight Rises actor is not alone in this deal. Joining him is the Dallas Buyers Club star, Matthew McConaughey. Interestingly, only a few people are aware that the True Detective actor has also invested in ElevenLabs.

Matthew McConaughey has given the company—with which he has been working since 2022—the right to translate his newsletter, Lyrics of Livin’ to a Spanish audio version using his voice.

Voices of other actors available on the marketplace are the late stars, including John Wayne, Rock Hudson, and Judy Garland, and the living artists, Liza Minnelli and Art Garfunkel.

Has Michael Caine Come Out of Retirement?

At the age of 90, back in 2023, Michael Caine announced that he would be retiring from his acting career. However, he has decided to step back into the film industry. Per Variety, the actor from The Italian Job is eyeing to return for the sequel to The Last Witch Hunter

In case you don’t know, the first installment of the Lionsgate movie was released back in 2015 and starred Vin Diesel as its lead. The grand cast of that movie even had names, including Elijah Wood, Rosee Leslie, and others.

Talking about the development of the sequel, Adam Fogelson, who is the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair, stated to the outlet,

The Last Witch Hunter’ has grown since its theatrical release into a global fan favorite, with audiences continuing to discover and rewatch it across every platform over the past decade. That enduring enthusiasm made clear there is an appetite for more stories set in this world.

Caine will likely reprise his role of Dolan 36th. His character was of a priest who always assisted Kaulder—a character played by Fast and Furious star—in his battle against a witch.

However, it is to be noted that the deal for Michael Caine has not been finalized yet, per Variety.

One of Hollywood’s Top Directors, Guillermo Del Toro, Shares Views About AI

Guillermo del Toro recently came forth with a brand new version of Frankenstein. Starring a great cast, the outing that showcases the talents of Oscar Isaac, Mia Goth, Jacob Elordi, as well as Christoph Waltz, went on to receive a massive 86% Rotten Tomatoes score.

Talking to NPR in an October interview, the director mentioned,

AI, particularly generative AI — I am not interested, nor will I ever be interested. I’m 61, and I hope to be able to remain uninterested in using it at all until I croak. … The other day, somebody wrote me an email, said, “What is your stance on AI?” And my answer was very short. I said, “I’d rather die.”
