Pop music’s rising star, Sabrina Carpenter, may have paved the way for Zohran Mamdani to win the New York mayor election. Mamdani’s historic win in the mayoral elections was also a slap in the face for the current corrupt government in the blue state.
In October 2024, Mamdani announced his candidacy for the mayor of New York City. A month before that, incumbent mayor Eric Adams was indicted on federal charges of bribery, fraud, and soliciting foreign campaign donations (via BBC).
The case against Adams was dropped in April 2025, and he announced that he would seek re-election as an independent candidate. However, he withdrew his candidacy after his campaign went nowhere amidst the back-to-back scandals.
According to a few fans online, Adams’ indictment was one of the major factors that boosted support for Mamdani, who belonged to the Democratic Socialists of America. The support for Mamdani was evident when he won the Democratic primary in an upset win over Andrew Cuomo in June 2025. Now, this is where the Sabrina Carpenter connection comes in.
Carpenter may have unintentionally gotten the mayor of New York indicted. She even joked about it during her show at Madison Square Garden in September 2024. She addressed the crowd, “Should we talk about how I got the mayor indicted, or?”

Since Carpenter herself alluded to the online discussions during her Short n’ Sweet Tour, it’s not a stretch to say she may have played a part in Mamdani’s win.
Did Sabrina Carpenter’s Music Video Cause the Indictment of Mayor Eric Adams?

Eric Adams was indicted following a federal investigation last year. One of the major allegations against Adams was his business transactions with Monsignor Jamie Gigantiello, who was in charge of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Brooklyn.
The federal probe into Gigantiello allegedly revealed his suspicious dealings with the former chief of staff for Adams, Frank Carone. If you have heard of Gigantiello and the name of the Brooklyn church before, it is because of their involvement in the infamous Sabrina Carpenter music video, Feather.
After the provocative music video was shot inside the church, the Diocese of Brooklyn took action against Gigantiello. He was stripped of his administrative duties, and he later apologized to his parishioners. However, Gigantiello was also accused of mishandling nearly $2 million in parish funds (via NPR).
Currently thinking about how if Sabrina Carpenter didn’t film that music video which led to a church getting investigated which then led to Eric Adams getting indicted, Mamdani wouldn’t be mayor-elect rn. pic.twitter.com/5rylLCuflc
Interestingly, it was speculated that this incident put Gigantiello under the FBI’s radar, which later led them to the mayor. However, no official sources have commented about Carpenter’s connection to the probe. When the diocese officials were asked about the matter, they told The New York Post:
It would be inappropriate to comment further on that review, which is still ongoing. The Diocese is fully committed to cooperating with law enforcement in all investigations, including conduct at individual parishes or involving any priest.
We may never know if Carpenter actually helped Zohran Mamdani in his historic win. Some fans have joked that Carpenter now has the power to influence the fate of a government.
Sabrina Carpenter’s Feather Music Video Allegedly Offended the Church

Sabrina Carpenter released the music video for Feather last October, and some fans weren’t happy with the risqué scenes shot inside an actual church. The song from her album Emails I Can’t Send featured a scene where Carpenter dances around the church’s altar in a black revealing dress.
She also sings about feeling “light as a feather” after orchestrating the death of men who were inappropriate towards her. The video showed her surrounded by coffins. The Diocese of Brooklyn wasn’t happy with the video. Bishop Robert Brennan shared that the diocese was “appalled” at the music video (via Billboard). He shared:
The parish did not follow diocesan policy regarding the filming on church property, which includes a review of the scenes and script.
Carpenter addressed the controversy at the time, sharing with Variety that she had received approval before filming the music video. She also quipped, “Jesus was a carpenter.” In his apology letter, Gigantiello shared that he wasn’t aware of the provocative nature of the video and added that he was under the impression that most of the video would be filmed outside of the church.
