Did Antonio Brown Commit a Murder: How Is Adin Ross Involved in This?

By Charles Lopez 11/07/2025

Antonio Brown has been extradited to the U.S. and is currently in custody for a shooting that happened earlier this year. The shooting incident took place in Miami, during an altercation outside a celebrity boxing event hosted by streamer Adin Ross on May 17. While no lives were lost during the altercation, the football wide receiver was charged with attempted murder.

After being wanted and charged with attempted murder a few months ago, Brown was recently located and apprehended in Dubai. He was then booked into the Essex County Jail in New Jersey on November 6, where he was being held until his extradition to the Miami-Dade County Jail, as per the Miami Police and jail records obtained by CBS News.

As per the videos and posts shared on social media at the time, Brown was allegedly jumped by multiple people trying to steal his jewelry outside the warehouse boxing event held by the influencer. Shortly after, new videos showed the footballer appearing to hold a gun and run out of frame, with gunshot sounds blaring through the air only seconds later.

Miami police confirmed back then that they had investigated what occurred, but it didn’t lead to any arrests. Thus, after being detained briefly, Brown was eventually let go. But a few days later, a Miami-Dade judge signed an arrest warrant that charged the footballer with attempted murder with a firearm. A bond was also set at $10,000, with the stipulation that he had to remain under house arrest until the trial (per the Miami Herald).

The charge stems from a shooting earlier this year in Miami, where Brown is accused of trying to shoot a man at an Adin Ross boxing event.

Per the police’s investigation, security footage from the event showed Brown punching a man who was later identified as Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, 41. The fight escalated when others joined in attacking Nantambu, before security broke up the fight, and Nantambu walked away.

However, Antonio Brown was then seen struggling with event security guard Eric Bauer behind a white SUV before he forcibly took a black firearm from his right side and ran after Nantambu, chasing him onto the sidewalk as he fired two shots from close range. After struggling over the gun and ending up on the ground, the two walked away when the police arrived.

On further investigation and contacting Nantambu about the incident, it was revealed that one of the bullets fired by Brown went by “possibly grazing his neck,” and that Nantambu left the scene when police arrived, fearing for his life. He also confirmed that he has known Brown personally since 2022, so that’s that too (via the Miami Herald).

Antonio Brown Faces the Charge of Second-Degree Attempted Murder

Now, months later, Antonio Brown, 37, is finally in custody for that Miami shooting earlier this year, and is now expected to be moved to Miami, Florida, to face a charge of second-degree attempted murder with a firearm. In a statement to PEOPLE, the Miami Police Department wrote, explaining these latest updates in the footballer’s case,

Following a thorough investigation … Antonio Brown (AB) has been identified as the shooter. This is just another example of the relentless work and dedication of Miami Police Detectives, working closely with Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office, and U.S. Marshals to identify and arrest those who commit crimes in the City of Miami.

It’s worth noting that the warrant for Brown’s arrest was issued in June this year, soon after the shooting incident took place. However, it was reported a month later that the footballer was still busy enjoying a lavish stay in Dubai while the police didn’t appear to be looking for him and even refused to discuss the case, back then (via the Miami Herald).

What Did Antonio Brown Have to Say About the Incident?

Soon after the shooting incident took place, Antonio Brown spoke about it on Adin Ross’ Kick livestream (via PEOPLE). He alleged that he had been “jumped by multiple individuals” and suffered from CTE (i.e., Chronic traumatic encephalopathy, which is a neurodegenerative disease linked to repeated head injuries and trauma to the head).

He said on the livestream,

I got CTE, I blacked out. I blacked out, Adin. I don’t know what happened.

Brown also shared a statement on his X handle, where he echoed similar claims. In his statement, he further emphasized the point that the people he was jumped him were trying to “cause physical harm to me.” He also cleared the air about his arrest, saying that he was only “temporarily detained” by the police until they heard this side of the story.

He wrote in his statement,

Regarding the boxing event that happened last night. I was jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me. Contrary to some video circulating, Police temporarily detained me until they received my side of the story and then released me. I WENT HOME THAT NIGHT AND WAS NOT ARRESTED.

Here’s a look at his complete statement, shared to his X handle:

Well, for what it’s worth, this isn’t really the first time for Antonio Brown to be involved in a scuffle with the law, considering all the controversies that he has been involved in the past (see PEOPLE). But while that’s that, it currently remains to be seen how exactly this one turns out to be. Either way, for now, he’s in custody until his extradition to the Miami-Dade County Jail.
