New reports are claiming that James Gunn, the co-CEO of DC Studios (which Warner Bros. owns), might be fired from the DCU, in the case of events that Skydance acquires WB. This is because some feel that he apparently supports political notions that do not quite align with Skydance’s principles, which might trigger his firing.
While Gunn himself hasn’t made any political stance as of yet, some fans seem to believe that the movies in his revamped version of the super-verse are “very anti-MAGA” and “anti-Israel.” Plus, even Fox News bashed Gunn’s Superman after he called the Man of Steel an “immigrant that came from other places,” which really irked conservatives.
These very comments might get him into trouble. As @cinemawithdylan explained in his recent video on Instagram,
Although James Gunn hasn’t made a political stance, fans believe his work is very anti-MAGA and anti-Israel. Because of this, MAGA supporting network Fox News bashed Superman and James Gunn when the film was releasing.
Continuing, he explained that if WB indeed ends up being taken over by Skydance, which is headed by CEO David Ellison, and they decide to comply with their reported ‘pro-MAGA plans’, then it could be the end of Gunn’s DCU.
If the Ellisons do comply with their pro-MAGA plans, James Gunn will probably be fired, meaning the DCU will end.
As the Instagram handle claimed, fans, thus, fear Gunn’s firing, and are also “very angry” about this situation for pretty understandable reasons:
The internet is very angry about this for two reasons: A lot of people love Superman and want to see James Gunn’s vision for the DCU, [and] a lot of people also think movies shouldn’t only be greenlit because of political agendas.
That said, it could potentially be that Gunn ends up being affected by Skydance’s acquisition of WB, and all because of some political reasons. While that’s a situation that most fans won’t be happy about in the first place, it remains to be seen just how everything ends up turning out.
Fansʼ Fear Might Come True if Skydance Buys Warner Bros.

Ever since Warner Bros. announced it has put its assets up for sale, Paramount/Skydance has been making headlines as a frontrunner among companies interested in buying WB. And, at first, fans were pretty excited about it all, as Paramount/Skydance acquiring WB didn’t seem like a bad option for one too many reasons.
However, it might not be that much of a good idea if it leads to Gunn’s version of the DCU being cancelled. As @cinemawithdylan explained on Instagram,
The DC Universe is about to be canceled because what just happened has the internet so angry. For the last couple of weeks, Warner Bros. has been looking for buyers, and currently, Netflix, Universal, and Skydance/Paramount are all very interested. At first, we were all excited about WB having new ownership – until this breaking news came out.
He then brought attention to the exclusive recently released by Variety, which shed light on the “dark details” about Skydance and its CEO David Ellison’s plans on when – and if – they successfully sign a deal with WB.
Variety just put out an exclusive revealing the dark details about Skydance and what the CEO, David Ellison, wants to do if he’s able to get Warner Bros. CEO David Ellison and his father, Larry, who is the second richest person in the world, are very close with Donald Trump and the Prime Minister of Israel [Benjamin Netanyahu].
As the exclusive emphasized, Ellison “has been busy leveraging his family’s extraordinary wealth and access to President Trump to prepare for a buying spree,” which says a lot about his relationship with the president of the United States. Plus, he is also said to have taken “a page from the MAGA playbook” and pulled off moves that “were viewed as Trump-friendly moves.”
Additionally, it also pointed out that Larry Ellison, the father of David Ellison, “is reportedly a close friend of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and is a prolific donor to Friends of the IDF.”
Not to mention, even Paramount became “the first major studio in September to denounce a celebrity-driven open letter signed by A-listers that called for a boycott of Israeli film institutions implicated in ‘genocide and apartheid’ against Palestinians.”
The Instagram handle pointed out the same in its clip, sharing,
Because of this, Skydance announced they won’t work with any actor that is against Israel, and they plan to make their movies align with the ‘Alpha Male’ MAGA messaging, with Variety predicting that Skydance is going to be the one to buy WB. With them already receiving Donald Trump’s approval, the DCU, as we know it, will completely disappear!
Learning about this, it seems even more likely than not that not only Gunn, but even his revamped version of the DCU might actually be under the threat of being cancelled if Skydance succeeds in its attempts to take over Warner Bros. as well. However, not all fans have the same opinions on this matter, especially on Gunn’s works in DC.
What Do Fans Have to Say About James Gunnʼs Works in the DCU?

In the wake of reports surfacing about Gunn’s position as co-CEO of DC Studios and his version of the respective super-verse as a whole potentially being canceled, fans have mixed opinions on the matter. While some are actually concerned and pretty mad about these reports, others just aren’t buying them, as they point out that Gunn’s works aren’t really anti-MAGA and anti-Israel, as some other fans might feel or claim.
For instance, in the comments section of @cinemawithdylan’s post on Instagram, here’s what some fans have to say:
We finally start getting a comic accurate universe and this happens….my god
Anti MAGA and anti Israel???? Brother peacemaker was anti nazi while superman was anti genocide 😭😭😭
I swear dc can never f—king win the second things actually start to look up for it this happens 😭
superman is not anti anything. Its a pro humanity film. It wants to inspire you to be a good person.
I’m just curious, are rich people actually allergic to money or they have so much that they just enjoy burning it?
No if James Gunn gets fired im never watching DC ever again
Just give WB to Universal omfg, At least they’ll know wtf they’re doing
Why should politics ever be involved with superhero movies or movies in general? Superman isn’t going to look at the camera and give a speech on who to vote for. This is all crazy
With all of this out there, it’s clear that fans aren’t really on board with the idea of losing either Gunn or this new DCU, so they might certainly rally against Skydance’s acquisition of WB. But how exactly this entire event unfolds remains to be seen.
Here’s an overview of James Gunn’s Superman (2025):
